00:00Kenya is reeling after the fatal shooting of opposition MP Charles Ogundu Wiri in what police have described as a targeted and premeditated attack in Nairobi on Wednesday night.
00:12According to police, Wiri was in his vehicle with his driver and bodyguard when a motorcycle taxi pulled up beside them at a roundabout and fatally shot the legislator before fleeing the scene.
00:24We were with him today in parliament, as she said, the whole afternoon, and he left I think barely 30 minutes before he met his death.
00:33So we would like to ask the police to investigate this matter thoroughly and share with Kenyans as fast as possible what happened to our colleague Ogundu Wiri.
00:45Internal Security Principal Secretary also confirmed that investigations are ongoing, while President William Bruto called for a swift and transparent probe insisting that those responsible must be held to account.
00:59We have a preliminary report of what transpired, but investigations are ongoing to establish what actually happened.
01:15The killing comes month after a political truce was signed between Bruto and Odinga in March, following a tense period of anti-government protests in May 23.
