The company is awaiting results from a pivotal election that could turn the area into an incorporated city. On Monday, the Texas House State Affairs Committee rejected legislation that would have expanded SpaceX’s local authority if the vote to create “Starbase, Texas” passes. SpaceX has routinely closed roads and beaches near Starbase for rocket tests, requiring permission from Cameron County officials.
