At a White House press briefing for new media, Karoline Leavitt was asked about increasing home ownership for Gen Z.

00:00Hi, you too.
00:01Thank you so much for the time.
00:03Sure.
00:04Tacky, getting off of Link's question about young people, one of the most pressing challenges
00:07for Gen Z right now is the lack of home ownership.
00:10As of 2025, I believe the median age is 38 years old of first-time home buyers, which
00:15is a hindrance to starting families for a lot of people.
00:18How does the Trump administration plan on tackling this in the next four years?
00:22It's a major issue.
00:24As you mentioned, that's directly impacting young people and young families.
00:28And the president is, I think, tackling it head-on already.
00:31The reason that homes have become so unaffordable is because of the massive inflation crisis
00:37caused by the previous administration.
00:39Not just the cost of a home, but everything that goes into building a new home went up
00:43and through the roof, right?
00:44We also saw mortgage rates reach incredible highs under the previous administration.
00:49So a few things.
00:50The president wants to bring down the cost of living, which he is already doing, as I mentioned
00:55in my opening remarks, which will increase our supply of homes across the country.
01:00But he also wants to bring down mortgage rates and interest rates to make it easier for young
01:04people and all people to borrow money, to take out those loans, to buy your first home.
01:09And so we got to increase the supply, bring down costs, and bring down interest rates and
01:13mortgage rates.
01:14And, by the way, those are all things the president successfully did in his first term.
01:18When he left office, inflation was a record low, 1.4 percent.
01:23Interest rates, mortgage rates also hit record lows in his first term.
01:26So this is a proven economic formula that works.
01:30It takes time to get there.
01:31We are in the process of the golden age.
01:33The president and the admin are slashing regulation every day, cutting red tape, cutting costs.
01:40And we need, again, Congress to pass those tax cuts to put more money back in people's pockets
01:44so they have greater purchasing power as well.
01:45So they have greater purchasing power as well.
