00:00It's like something straight out of a movie, an armored truck carrying millions of dollars
00:04driving through a small town in Illinois with its back door open, unknowingly dropping several
00:08sacks of cash worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. That was the scene recently in the city
00:14of Oak Park, Illinois, when the rear door of a Brinks truck, quote, opened by unknown means
00:18and dropped three bags of money onto Austin Boulevard. The truck's driver eventually realized
00:23what had happened and returned to the scene, only to find between 50 and 100 people grabbing cash
00:29and fleeing. Authorities say the loss from the incident sits around $300,000, no small sum.
00:34The Oak Park Police Department is investigating the incident, though it's unlikely they will be able
00:38to return the money. Brinks, meanwhile, has yet to comment on the ordeal, saying they wish to remain
00:43silent for the employee's safety. It's a wild story, but this isn't the first time something
00:47like this has happened. In November 2021, an armored truck traveling near San Diego, California,
00:53unexpectedly had its door swing open. It spilled several bags of cash onto the roadway, causing
00:58drivers to pull over and scramble to collect the money, with the same thing occurring in May 2018
01:03in Indianapolis, Indiana.
