00:00So, can we grow at 5%? Yes, we can. We have, excluding the pandemic year of 2020, our economy grew at about 6% a year. Post-pandemic, our economy is growing at 6% a year.

00:14Hindi nahuhuli ang Pilipinas pagdating sa paglago ng ekonomiya. Ito ang tiniyak ni Department of Economy, Planning and Development o Dep-Dev Secretary Arsenio Balisacan. Sa kabila ito ng Gross Domestic Product o GDP Projection ng World Bank sa Pilipinas na bumaba sa 5.3% ngayong 2025 mula sa 5.7% noong 2024.

00:39Ayon sa kalihim, inaasahan na ito, lalo na sa kasalukuyang lagay ng pandaigdigang ekonomiya, bunsod ng bagong trade policies.

00:47Recently, some development institutions like the World Bank or IMF has reduced our growth prospects, but that's expected given the underlying global uncertainty and every country has gotten that downgrade.

01:06Ayon sa kalihim kay sa tingnan sa negatibong perspektibo, mas maiging pagtuunan ng atensyon kung paano mas mapapaganda ang kalagayan ng bansa.

01:17But then, I think we should keep focusing on the fundamentals, particularly on improving our competitiveness for our exports and improving our investment climate, so that when things improve, when the global economy recovers, we are ready.

01:39Dagdag pa nito, dapat tingnan ng bansa ang long-term vision upang mapatatagpa ang ekonomiya at makabawi rin agad sa oras na gumanda na ang kalagayan ng international markets.

01:51The biggest threat to a middle-income trap is complacency. If you remain, if you become complacent, that's when you get trapped into that middle-income status.

02:06Samantala, tiniyak naman ang United Nations Executive Secretary for Economic and Social Commission for Asia and Pacific na hindi lamang GDP ang nakakasukat ng kabuang development progress ng isang bansa.

02:20Because GDP basically only measures economic progress. So it's not enough because it doesn't show, for example, environmental degradation or environmental sustainability, inequality, and so on and so forth.
