What Hearts need in next manager and who it could be?

00:00it was an uphill battle from day one for him to get them onside and not not capitalizing on those

00:06big games probably was is outdoing i think if if it had been seen as a more ambitious appointment

00:14a foreign coach that came in and was more exciting and they'd had the same results i don't

00:21necessarily believe that that coach would be sacked when neil critchley was if they didn't go if that

00:30same coach then went and lost up at ross county probably would be anyway i i guess i'm saying

00:35it might have bought him one more game but i just get the feeling that really didn't help critchley's

00:40cause talking of sort of other names attention will quickly turn to who comes next barry i'll start

00:48with you it's far too early for any concrete names or anything i think this could be a pretty

00:55elongated process but you did a piece on on sunday sort of what a heart manager needs i suppose are

01:03there any names out there and i don't think there particularly is any any that jump off the page at

01:08the minute but probably more so what does this new guy have to come in with to to really be a success

01:13at heart i think firstly you have to be passionate for the cause you know hearts is a passionate club

01:19they have passionate fans and you have to demonstrate that on the touchdown secondly you have to have a

01:23winning mentality you have to be in every game to win there's no point in accepting a point here and

01:30there yes it's something you're not going to win every game but you can't just accept you know a draw is

01:35good enough you know a way at for example st johnson or motherville or wherever you have to be going in

01:41there looking for threes you need to demonstrate disappointment when you don't get three tactically

01:45third tactically you need to be ready to set a team up to go and attack particularly at timecastle get

01:50on the front foot pin your opponents back have an aggression about you um and go and take the game to

01:55them you also have to now work with analytics because jamestown is is on board and isn't going anywhere so

02:01every signing every coach is em as goes through that software system and is analyzed that way so

02:09you need to accept that otherwise you can't be the hearts manager you shouldn't be taking any nonsense

02:14as well most you know the hearts fans expect their manager to stand up for for the fans the team the

02:19club the players as much as it might be a parochial issue for some but beating hybs is a huge thing for

02:25hearts and their supporters if you can't beat hybs you're not going to last long as a heart manager

02:29simple as that you have to make sure that you connect with the fans uh it's a fan owned club

02:35at the end of the day tens of thousands of people are putting money in whether it's through season

02:39tickets whether it's through foundation of hearts monthly pledges um commercial stuff buying strips

02:45and all the rest of the shop there's loads of different ways that fans support the club and you

02:49need to recognize that and be fully on board with that final two that i would say develop young players

02:54that's massively important hearts spend a lot of money in their academy and there's an awful lot of

02:58coaching staff up there who are tasked with producing players and getting them ready for

03:03the first team so you then need to be willing to integrate those players into the side and biggest

03:07of all lift silver were uh 13 years since hearts lasted a major trophy success so all of those things

03:13combined uh i don't know who ticks all those boxes but it's a it's a big responsibility and an awful lot

03:19of um factors to take on board martin i'm not sure if you want to pin a name to it if you want to

03:27dive delve into the stephen robinson john mcglenn and derrick mckinnis bowl that will eventually get

03:31trotted out or whether you want to go into the big supercomputer of madness and go and pick out somebody from

03:37pin a dart to a country on the world wide map and see who comes in one name i saw floating about that i

03:46kinda liked was rob edwards whether there's two whether he would want to come up to scotland i think

03:52he would still have a few decent offers down in england

03:55whether the hearts you know want to go for another that rob edwards had more success than neil

04:02pitchley did in english football who went to the one another english coach coming up i don't know

04:08that was a name i i kind of liked i think that would would meet the criteria i think of being ambitious

04:17enough to get the hearts fans excited that's just my take i don't want to speak too much

04:24for hearts fans here but i do think not not to harp on about that point but they need that if they do

04:30the same thing they did with critchley where they bring someone in who overwhelms the fans

04:36it's going to be difficult and i think with respect to everything derrick mckinnis has achieved in

04:42scottish football everything stephen robinson has achieved in scottish football and certainly

04:46everything john mcglynn has achieved in scottish football and is potentially about to achieve taking

04:51falkirk back up to the premiership and the hearts fans i just i just can't see them being happy with

04:59any of those as an appointment because it just kind of screams too safe for me
