00:00what the process was like this morning well again good morning to all thankfully so far

00:05throughout the whole general election um we have seen this being a clean general election basically

00:10um i wish to commend the trinidad tobago police service i wish to commend the ebc

00:16uh wish to thank the caricom observers the commonwealth observers that is exactly what

00:20this country needed at this time to make sure that an election like this that at no time after

00:25the election there's going to be some degree of questionable activity to question um how

00:30legitimate the next government will be whether it is the present or or replacement i think that

00:37is important anytime it is you have that concern it can cause instability it can cause it can affect

00:42the productivity of a country all our marks in this country is that come tomorrow we are all citizens

00:48of the same country let us appreciate and accept the decision made by the public um again as

00:55we've seen here everything has been has run smoothly um i do wish to voice my concern i've seen this

01:01morning there has been there have been massive amount of marketing and promotion by persons still

01:08it seems that they are ignorant of the law the law is clear on the representation of the people's act

01:13section 91 to 93 i think you cannot influence persons you cannot promote political parties there's

01:20somebody who's an alderman he holds a position in this country um as it pertains to governance and he

01:26is on social media promoting one party or trying to tell people not to vote for a party that is the

01:32law that is against the law he should be arrested this morning um we would be reporting it to the

01:36police this has to stop people need to calm down take a deep breath appreciate the fact that the

01:41marketing and the promoting and all of that has ended as of yesterday this is just for people now to

01:46um to exercise their right to vote their democratic right and regardless of the result it is hope that

01:51everyone will accept and appreciate the democratic process that has taken place as the political

01:56leader of the national transformation alliance we wish again to state emphatically that we are

02:01confident that regardless of the result it the result is going to be based on the democratic process

02:06not based on any clandestine um plan that was made because we've been hearing these accusations it is

02:11not good it is not appropriate it is not democratic it has worked well and i wish to thank the people

02:16of trinidad and tobago yeah yeah um under the representation of the people's act section 91 to 93

02:29you cannot in any way persuade persons to vote for any party you cannot persuade persons not to vote for

02:34a party you cannot promote you cannot use paraphernalia you cannot so even in social media you cannot do it

02:38it is against the law uh um even up until day before yesterday someone was trying to actually

02:43influence one of our candidates to drop out and he would be rewarded if he goes to another political

02:48party that is also is against the law um i've seen all of the flyers and stickers on walls and so forth

02:54lampos on the roads all of that is against the law you can't want to break the law and then expect to

02:59be in government um i i do wish that the police could have put a more stringent approach on it make it

03:04known to the public because sometimes it is ignorance because on social media people it is

03:08being littered with people still making promotion for their political party or attacking other

03:13political parties you cannot do it today it is against the law but as i said i think there's more

03:18ignorance rather than it coming from the hierarchy of the political parties but political leader the

03:23political leaders and the police and the ebc should make it known immediately we need to put an end it

03:27everybody needs to take a deep breath appreciate the fact that the marketing and the promotion

03:32has ended the campaign ended yesterday and this is just for people to do what is required

03:37i cannot wait for tomorrow i cannot wait to exhale i had i had a very enjoyable campaign i ran i jumped

03:43i whined i had a good time i had many friends i made many friends two dogs tried to bite me other than

03:48that it um i i had a good time and i really hope that people enjoy the campaign the campaign shouldn't

03:54be one based on bitterness and anger and animosity you'd have seen it you'd have seen political parties

03:59socializing having a good time it was like carnival sometimes we've seen that politicians have divided

04:04the country it is hope that come tomorrow the country could start being united yet again

04:13well so far what i've been seeing and hearing on on in the media it seems to be a very high

04:16voter turnout there was it was would have been until less in 2020 um it made life easier for me as

04:22commissioner of police at the time um but as it is right now if there's a high voter turnout it speaks

04:27well for the democratic process it makes people realize you can't just sit home and complain or

04:33criticize or commend it is your right this is the one time that you are the boss you are in charge

04:38for the next five years the politicians will try to take control this is your moment this is your day

04:43and it is good to see that the citizens of tron tobago are making the most of it

04:46it's not early um i know you spoke about people uh trying to promote the political parties on social

04:52media still any other irregularities my god any other irregularities in relation to let's say

05:01um you feel anything um at other polling stations etc any groups no no none whatsoever which again i said

05:07it augurs well for our democratic process it shows that the political parties they realize they did what was

05:12required in whichever form or fashion prior to the election and you know i must add you know usually

05:18everybody waiting for a mark to bust they're waiting to hear this one this one was with this

05:22one or this one has an account in something there was no mark busting there was nothing major this one

05:26is going to be arrested in which meant basically that the political parties ran a pretty clean campaign

05:31there was no sense of persons going in there and going down to the gutter um yes it was a little

05:37aggressive which is which is what happens in in politics but there was nothing that was very nasty

05:42which is good in fact there's one person that was actually muzzled from seeing from seeing much

05:47because every time he opens his mouth it becomes negative and nasty other than that i i think the

05:53only thing that we are seeing is just to get persons who are ignorant of the law not understanding

05:57the representation of the people's act section 91 to 93 that you cannot in any way promote or try to

06:04discredit other political parties or try to influence or persuade persons it is just for i i i thought the

06:10ebc would have made that um statement yesterday or day before likewise with the police just advise

06:15persons because ignorance of the law is no excuse what was the process like for you this morning it's

06:24very smooth um ran very smoothly very quickly very efficient and it was quite an easy process i was

06:31mentioning someone that i was very surprised pleasantly so at the level of turnout of this morning because

06:37we've always voted here
