Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, President Trump was asked if he still believes Russian President Vladimir Putin is serious about peace with Ukraine.

00:00Mr. President, on Russia, do you still believe that Putin is serious about peace,

00:05given the events overnight in Ukraine?

00:07And if that bombing doesn't end, are you considering new sanctions on Russia?

00:12So we are thinking that, very strongly, that they both want peace.

00:17But they have to get to the table.

00:18We're waiting a long time.

00:20They have to get them to the table.

00:22And I think we're going to get peace.

00:24We want to save 5,000 young people.

00:26I used to say 2,500. I used to say 5,000.

00:31We have, Mr. Prime Minister, we have about 5,000 young people a week

00:36that are dying in that ridiculous war.

00:40And, you know, I started out because I didn't like all the money that we were paying.

00:44And then I realized how many people were dying.

00:47And that's by far the more important element right now.

00:50I'm saying we can save thousands of people.

00:52And I don't like that it takes long at all.

00:56But I think they both want to make peace.

00:58I do believe so.

00:59There's a lot of hatred there.

01:01There's a lot of very bad blood, a lot of disgust.

01:04But I think we're going to – I hope we're going to get there

01:06for the sake of a lot of young people that are dying.

01:10Mr. President, do you have a deadline for when the parliament –

01:13I have my own deadline.

01:15I have my own deadline.

01:16And we want it to be fast.

01:18And the Prime Minister is helping us.

01:20He wants it to be fast, too.

01:22And I think everybody in this – you know, at this time in NATO,

01:25they want to see this thing happen.

01:28So we have a deadline.

01:30And after that, we have a – we're going to have a very much different attitude.

01:33But I think that there's a very good chance of getting done.

01:36To me, he doesn't play it.
