James Lankford Asked How Deregulation Will Impact Americans In The Next Few Years

At a Congressional Forum on Wednesday, Sen. James Lankford (R-OK) was asked about deregulation.

00:00With the current administration's focus on deregulation, for example, environmental

00:06regulations, where do you see those efforts going in the next few years, and what impacts

00:11do you think that will have on business in Oklahoma?

00:14SECRETARY KERRY, Yeah, so there'll be several agreements that are out there that can be

00:17made until environmental regulations.

00:18And let me be clear on this.

00:20If you look at the executive orders that the Trump administration has done on environmental

00:24regulations, read the executive order – again, not on social media, read actually what's

00:30on the executive order.

00:31They've been very clear on all of that to the EPA Administrator, to others, to say,

00:37you fulfill everything that is required by the law to fulfill, but find areas where the

00:44administration in the past has gone beyond what the law requires and in does.

00:51So basically, if this was an act of Congress, if this was made into law, do it.

00:57Follow the law.

00:58But if there were additional things that were made up that were new requirements, don't.

01:03That's what they're going after initially.

01:06And by the way, I'm pleased to be able to say that.

01:10We are a nation of laws.

01:11And if it's in the law, we need to be able to follow it.

01:14And if it's just a preference issue that's causing billions of dollars of damage to our

01:18economy and making things unstable, that's just an executive action that was taken at

01:22some point in the past that's literally making it harder to be able to do business.

01:26So that's what they're going after in every single area of this.

01:30And by the way, our federal courts are still out there.

01:32Every single one of these are going to be challenged.

01:34We'll go through the court system to be able to be evaluated on that.

01:37And I have great respect for where we are in our federal courts.

01:40They'll continue to be able to do their job.

01:42It takes time to be able to do it, but they'll continue to be able to do their job to be

01:46able to make sure the checks and balances continue to work.
