More than 500,000 people vote on first day of pre-polling, breaking 2022 record

More than half a million people voted on day one of pre-polling yesterday. The Australian electoral commission expects around half of the country's 18 million voters will cast their ballots before the election on the third of May.

00:08including here in western sydney where the queue to vote is streaming out the door a record 540

00:15000 people cast their vote yesterday on the first day of early voting smashing the previous 2022

00:22election record by 70 percent new south wales saw the highest turnout with 166 000 voters

00:30while victoria saw around 143 000 and queensland 117 000 around 19 000 votes were cast with mobile

00:41voting teams and so far 2.2 million postal votes have been distributed the increase in early voters

00:49means political parties have been forced to adapt their campaign strategies to get their messages

00:54across early a lot of voters today say they don't expect to change their mind before election day
