00:00What did you take out of this?
00:01It looked like you got stronger as the outing went on.
00:04Yeah, that's a great assessment.
00:06Definitely did get stronger as the game went on.
00:11I thought the pitch count landed in a great spot.
00:17I thought fastball was not very good early, just missing in bad places.
00:24That definitely progressed to where we executed the last seven or eight of them in a row.
00:31Curveball was really sharp.
00:33Changeup was really great.
00:34Cutter was really great.
00:36Slider was, to my eyes, it looked okay, but it was coming off the bat hot to the middle of the field.
00:43It didn't seem like it was fooling anybody.
00:48But overall, it checked a lot of the boxes.
00:54Leaving here, do you think you have things to work on?
00:55Or did you say, hey, it's a second rehab start, pretty good day?
00:59I mean, I said both.
01:01Can I say both?
01:02Second rehab start, pretty good day.
01:04Still got things to work on.
01:05How did you feel?
01:06Obviously, the first time pitching four days after you had pitched previously.
01:10So how did you feel?
01:11Yeah, well, no, I've been on it five days the last few times.
01:13We're definitely back-to-back games.
01:15You know, I felt pretty good.
01:17Yeah, I mean, I felt pretty good.
01:18You know, on a day like today, you know, I wish I would have been able to crisp up the location, you know, just crisp up the location a lot earlier, quicker.
01:35You know, but really, really that was about it.
01:37Do you think you'll need one more, two more?
01:40It's tough to say.
01:41The homerun, that was a fastball?
01:44Yeah.
01:45Do you see the kid, I've admired it pretty well there, too.
01:47Oh, yeah.
01:49Nobody's here with that.
01:51Garrett, are you still, would you say you're just sort of working up stamina right now, or do you sort of feel like you're pitching and getting used to pitching with a slight injury and sort of getting used to feeling a little bit different?
02:04Oh, no, no.
02:05It's just a stamina thing?
02:06Yeah.
02:07Garrett, when you're coming to a minor league team, you're drawing so many fans who aren't, you know, who aren't able to go to Yankees games traditionally, you know, what's it like to see so many fans come out from here?
02:20Yeah, it's great.
02:21I mean, it's just, it was a great environment last time, and it was a lot of fun today, and, you know, the kids on the field was great, you know, and signed some autographs afterwards, just trying to get to those fans.
02:34Yeah, they don't get over to the Bronx for us, so, you know, thankful that they come out to support us and support me.
02:43You know, it always feels good to have Yankee fans behind your back, so.
02:47What was it like wearing a Marvel jersey?
02:48It was cool.
02:50I thought that pants up looked better with it.
02:52That's why I went with the pants up.
02:56Who's your favorite Marvel character?
02:57I mean, I'm a good old-fashioned Captain America guy.
03:04Yeah, it's a stadium gun head jet, 95-ish, 96, top and out.
03:08Yeah, I'd say that was about right, yeah.
03:10That's what we had, too.
03:11What are you looking for going into the next rehab start?
03:14Um, yeah, just a progression, really, of everything.
03:24Pitch count, command, so, yeah.
03:30Obviously, more pitches today, but, you know, you weren't happy with your stuff early.
03:33Is this a step in the right direction still, though?
03:36Yeah, sure.
03:37So, you would say it's fair to say that there will be another rehab start, or that's really more up in the air, would you say?
03:42Uh, I would say it's fair to say.
03:45Fair to say.
03:45That's what Booney said, at least three.
03:47What would determine, in your mind, if it's just three?
03:50Because your pitch count will probably go up another 10 to 15.
03:53Do you feel, in your mind, you still, you want to be a little sharper before you get on a big-leg mound?
03:58Or do you, so you'll assess it after start three?
04:00Yeah.
04:01Or is it pitch count related?
04:02Well, I think it's a little bit of both, you know?
04:04So, like, I want to feel confident, you know, that, you know, if we get into some sort of a jam and we've got to, you know, run 25, 30, 30-some-odd pitches out, you know, that we're still in a good spot to keep going after that.
04:20You know, I think with the way everything's been going right now up there, certainly, you know, I just, the team's played so well.
04:29Like, I just want to make sure I come in and I feel like I'm in a good position to play well.
04:33I mean, certainly, like, you know, I'm always up for a challenge, but, I mean, it's a group decision in that regard.
04:40So, we just take all the information that we have and try to see, you know, when the best time is to pull the trigger on that.
04:46David, could you educate on what the difference between a AA rehab start would be versus a AAA rehab start for you?
04:52Yeah, you know, I mean, I've asked quite a few people on that.
04:56You know, from my recollection between AA to AAA, I would say that, obviously, there's just a lot of older guys in AAA.
05:03So, there's more of an approach, probably, to a certain extent, depending on how you face.
05:12But, you know, they've got three or four guys over there with above Major League Average bat speed.
05:17You know, they're all very aggressive.
05:21They're all very aggressive, you know.
05:22I mean, they're putting good swings on good pitches.
05:24And so, I think you see some of those similar characteristics in AAA.
05:27From what I've heard, actually, DJ told me the most.
05:30It's just thought that the pitching was a lot different from AA to AAA in terms of the command.
05:35And there's a big jump in the amount of strikes thrown at AAA to AA.
05:38And that's kind of what I recall back then, too.
05:41But, you know, I haven't had any experience with it, especially since things have been reshuffled since COVID.
05:48Is there a special postgame spread in there for them to eat again from you?
05:51Yeah, they're going to get some good food.
05:53I wanted to note that Hill's pitching tonight.
05:57I know you've worked with him.
05:58Are you curious to see how many innings they will let him go?
06:02He's going to be close to 70 now.
06:04He only pitched four innings last year.
06:06Are you of the mind that, hey, if he's pitching well and feeling good, just keep him?
06:10I'm sure you're looking forward to pitching postseason starts.
06:13Or do you think that a young guy, they've got to be careful.
06:16You understand if they limit him.
06:19What's your thoughts on what he's done?
06:20Well, I certainly think regardless of how it shakes out on one end or the other end of the spectrum, they have Louis' best interest in mind.
06:30That's for sure.
06:31The organization's got his back.
06:32So I don't expect them to baby him.
06:37I expect them to challenge him.
06:39But at the same time, I mean, they're going to make decisions with Louis' best interest in mind for sure, you know, and is probably relatively fluid to that extent.
06:50What are your thoughts on what he's done so far?
06:52I mean, he's been outstanding for us.
06:54He's really been outstanding for us.
06:55I'm looking forward to seeing him pitch tonight.
06:56Gary, was a strong finish?
06:58Was that part of the plan or was it just a wave?
07:00Yeah, we ended up using some off-speed, which was good.
07:07And we ended up being a little lower on the fastball usage.
07:17So, yeah, we were throwing all fastballs in the last inning just to kind of get that up.
07:23So usage was right around 50% fastball.
07:29So it was a pretty even split for the day.
07:32Gary, when you pitched on Tuesday, you worked with Ben Rice, who ended up going up to AAA right after that night.
07:38What was it like working with JC today?
07:40It's only his ninth game that he's called.
07:42Right, yeah, no.
07:43I mean, considering that, I think he did outstanding, really.
07:49You know, he came up to me earlier today.
07:52We communicated what we were looking for in terms of reading the swings.
07:56And, you know, we got together a few times in the dugout, making sure that we were on the same page.
08:03And, you know, he put down some good pitches.
08:06He really caught some nice balls.
08:08So I thought he was really outstanding today.
08:11The minor league schedule is kind of unique, and it's different than a major league schedule.
08:15Yeah.
08:15And when you pitched to the minor league with a 16.
08:17Yeah, yeah.
08:18Do you take anything in your memory bank from the guys that you faced on Tuesday, just kind of remembering their approach a little bit?
08:24Yeah.
08:24I mean, I definitely recall, I definitely had it in the back of my mind.
08:29I actually thought it was, you know, it's, you know, it's generally advantageous for the hitter in that situation to come back on five days and face him again at the same time.
08:38I mean, it's, you know, it doesn't always shake out that way.
08:41But I did think that that was a good variable, like a little extra challenge.
08:48So, you know, I was up for it, and we, you know, we did all right.
08:52You see how close your son came to get an NFL ball?
08:54Yeah, they're hot right now.
08:58You need a full uni on.
08:59Yeah, spikes too.
09:01Summer set in, Scranton, are both on the road next game.
09:05Yeah.
09:07Hudson Valley's home.
09:08Does it matter to you if you drop down and stay close and go to low A or high A, or would you think it's better at this point to get tested at a level?
09:16I would say it's probably, at this point, it probably just makes sense to go down.
09:22So, I think, I think, I think we'll, yeah, I think we'll figure out which one we're going to do, but I don't think it makes any sense to go down.
09:32Jason Dominguez.
09:32Not to go down.
09:34Dominguez at his sixth home run of his rehab assignment.
09:36Are you guys competing for who has a better rehab assignment?
09:41No, we're not.
09:44He's a great player.
09:47You know, you're not the only society.
