00:26good so good to see you on these stages absolutely always good to be there always good to be at the

00:31aretha that's like my my place absolutely so you actually are kicking off the 2024 season how dope

00:39is that it's excellent i mean you know we've been playing that place for a long time back at the

00:43shame park and so now to come play it that it's called the aretha gives it even you know more to

00:50me so it's always always great to be there yes and meaningful what's your favorite memory so far you

00:56know being there on that stage you know i've been there so many times but i gotta say the memory

01:01that stands out right in this moment is that one time i was there with mike phillips and a person a

01:07lady walked up onto the stage and started talking to me during the show oh my god what is she saying

01:13she said she said i just she said i just want to touch you oh my god and they got her off the stage

01:27it was a scary thing but it was so crazy surreal yeah i love that i love that well listen in detroit

01:36sometimes we just feel like i don't know nah because i don't know i can't i don't never want to talk

01:41walk up and touch nobody but i mean don't do it you can put you in a mood yes like please keep your

01:50hands to yourself ladies and gentlemen keep your hands to yourself and stay in your seat stand up and

01:55sit back down yes well on on june 5th you'll be back with mike phillips on the stage kicking off

02:01the summer season for jazzy nights i cannot wait now we always look forward to a fabulous show when you

02:09hit that stage but what are we looking forward to now that you have this new album we're gonna play

02:14some of the new music for y'all we got singles coming out kind of every week until the record

02:18comes out the record comes out june 14th okay and it's called band to black um just in time for june

02:24too so we're gonna play some good music for you that you know we're gonna introduce you to some

02:29great new music i'm really proud of my new record and it's probably i think it's the best record i've

02:34ever made low key i i've been trying to really struggle with it because they're all like my

02:38little children but this one right now is my favorite so which one is your favorite this one

02:44that's coming out to your 14th that's a blast oh the album i'm sorry which track is your favorite

02:48i don't have a favorite track i don't have a favorite track i mean listen willow smith is on my

02:54album and what right and uh uh common and rhapsody and fonte and mc light and michael mcdonald i mean

03:05it's just it's chock full of star power like the whole record is so great to me i listen to it

03:12like once a day right now and if it wasn't me i would still feel the same way so i'm really excited

03:17about getting it to y'all and seeing how y'all feel about me absolutely layla hathaway the one and

03:23only on that stage june 5th at the aretha you do not want to miss this how is it working with mike

03:28phillips oh mike phillips is great he's somebody i've known for years and years and years a consummate

03:34saxophone player consummate performer uh and all around good guy i love that yes good chemistry we

03:41can see it on the stage but which is ironic that you mentioned the show prior and this you know you're

03:46still working with him this time so and i haven't done a show with him in a while so it's going to be

03:53interesting to chop it up yeah full circle moment yeah i love that well there's only a few tickets

03:58left if any for this show on june 5th so we cannot wait to see you tear the aretha all the way down

04:05and of course for fun you know if you weren't a singing powerhouse what would you be doing what

04:10do you think you'd be doing you want to know for real yeah if to me to be a comedian is like the

04:16greatest job you could ever have i love that i can see that it would be i'm i'm i'm too fragile

04:24to do it because the moment they don't laugh i'm gonna cry my feelings gonna be up yeah but music

04:29and comedy you know musicians always want to be comedians comedians always want to be musicians

04:34so it's just different ways to connect on the stage absolutely absolutely and it's a similar

04:40feeling when they are good right heavy on that yeah well i love it thank you for a few minutes
