00:03I got the one and only Trent Shelby in the building.

00:07So if you don't know who Trent Shelby is, this is like my brother, one.

00:10But two, he came, well, he's actually still in the group,

00:13a known gospel group, the Shelby Five.

00:15I know a lot of y'all probably heard of them.

00:17But he had a life-changing moment where he got married to the love of his life.

00:21Yeah.

00:22And then he did a vowel.

00:25You did your vowels through music.

00:26Yes.

00:26So how it actually ended up working,

00:38we weren't going to give like vows per se to each other.

00:42Okay.

00:43But the day before the wedding, or two days before the wedding,

00:47I was like, you know what, man, I want to say something to her.

00:50But, you know, I've sung all my life.

00:53And so I'm like, the easiest way for me to be able to really express myself to her

00:58is going to be through a song.

01:00That is true.

01:01So I called Don, who is my big brother,

01:04and John, who is an artist from Detroit.

01:07We went to the studio, and I was like, hey, this is what I'm thinking.

01:11This is what I'm feeling.

01:12Like, let's collaborate.

01:13And literally, we wrote this song in like an hour and a half.

01:17Did you really?

01:18Like, it was the most, and I've been in a lot of studio sessions,

01:22but it was the most seamless studio session that I've ever had.

01:27Like, it was no, like, challenges at all.

01:31Like, everything was just flowing, flowing.

01:32So did you tell your bride?

01:34Like, hey, this is what, oh, wow.

01:35So it was a total surprise to her.

01:37So literally, the day before, you know, a wedding,

01:40you have the run-through, all of that stuff.

01:42Yeah.

01:43We, I had like snuck my groomsmen out of the run-through.

01:47And she was mad.

01:48The wedding coordinator was mad.

01:49They were like, what are you guys doing?

01:51And I was like, I just need to talk to them real quick.

01:53Like, make sure we good.

01:54And we jumped in a room with a piano, and I taught them the song.

01:58And like, I need y'all to sing this with me tomorrow.

02:01Yeah.

02:01Okay, so you're used to writing.

02:03So have you wrote for other people before?

02:05Yeah, I've written for a few people.

02:07I've written for some artists here in Detroit, a few R&B artists in Detroit.

02:11I've written for, of course, Shelby 5.

02:14Of course, yes.

02:15And I've collaborated with plenty of gospel artists.

02:20Really, you can almost just name them.

02:21I've collaborated with them.

02:23And, you know, the biggest one that comes to mind is my aunt, Kirk Franklin.

02:26I've collaborated with him on, you know, a few things as well.

02:30So, you know, I did see you on the documentary.

02:32Yeah.

02:36So how did it feel waking up to your wedding vows going viral?

02:40Oh, it was crazy.

02:42So how that happened was there's a photographer out of Chicago who was our wedding photographer.

02:48His name is Eric Robinson.

02:49Oh, he was fired.

02:50Yeah, he is very fired.

02:51He was recording it on his phone.

02:54And when I sang the song, I didn't really think anything of it, of course.

02:59I was just like, this is just me singing to my wife.

03:01Nothing really big or crazy.

03:04But he had posted it on his TikTok.

03:07And it literally, like, shot through the roof on TikTok.

03:10Okay.

03:11And I was like, whoa.

03:12And Val was like, hey, you need to post that on your Instagram.

03:15And I was like, all right, whatever.

03:16Like, I'll post it.

03:17And I posted it and literally, like, I posted it right before we got on the plane to go on our honeymoon to Punta Cana.

03:24No way.

03:24And so literally when we touched down, Val was like, Trent, this thing is going crazy.

03:30I'm like, no, it's not.

03:31You're lying.

03:31She's like, it's going crazy.

03:33I went to sleep.

03:34That next day I woke up to shade room messages like, hey, can we post this?

03:40Plenty of other big pages.

03:42Black love.

03:42I've seen that.

03:43It was everything.

03:43Like, everybody was like, hey, can we post this on our page?

03:46I'm like, yeah, let's go.

03:47And it literally went from there.

03:49Okay.

03:49So with positive comments, there's always those negative comments, guys.

03:53So I picked out, like, the top two that I just wanted to see how you would react.

03:57So the first one says, this was all made up.

04:03So, and you know what?

04:05Shout out to that person, man.

04:06Because, you know, at the end of the day, we live in such of a superficial world to where people think, like, you put on for social media.

04:14But if you ever know me, I'm not the guy to put on for social media.

04:19You know, if it is what it is, and it ain't what it ain't for me.

04:23So with that, it was not made up, y'all.

04:26I wanted to write my vows to my wife.

04:28I wanted to sing them.

04:30Actually, it's like a little tradition of our family.

04:33Everybody that's in my family, we sing to the people that we love.

04:36And so it was like, hey, I just had to do it.

04:40So you really got to know the Shelby's to just really know them, to just be making comments like that.

04:44So, yeah, much love to you, huh?

04:48It says, how he going to outshine the bride?

04:51Yeah, I saw that.

04:53So I saw that.

04:54And, you know, I think, again, it just depends on your relationship.

05:00You know, Fowl, she can't be outshining.

05:03She is the most beautiful girl in the world to me.

05:07And she is absolutely amazing.

05:09And so, you know, if I was dealing with a, you know, a middle class woman, maybe.

05:16But, you know, when you're dealing with somebody like Fowl, it's impossible, man.

05:20She's the one.

05:28And then you put them together, y'all, they're like a power couple.
