00:01Everything makes a sound.

00:04The wind, the water, cities, and people.

00:10So the question is, what is the sound of the BMW Neuklasse?

00:16Sound plays a crucial role in shaping our connection to vehicles,

00:20transforming silent machines into emotional experiences.

00:24But what lies behind the vision of the new driving sounds, the hypersonics?

00:30With hypersonics, we have designed an experience that goes beyond sound

00:36and embraced all the elements in the car, such as light and user interface,

00:41so that we create an holistic experience for our drivers.

00:45The idea has been to go to the core of our Sonic brand

00:50and understanding what are the elements that really define BMW.

00:54Driving pleasure has always been the core element of the BMW.

00:58The Neuklasse shows that the emotion it evokes

01:02and the reduction of complexity harmonize perfectly with each other.

01:06Now, more than ever, it focuses on the human being.

01:10Hypersonics is about a human sound experience.

01:14So what we have done, we have gathered several design colleagues into a choir.

01:20We asked them to speak about the moment of joy in which they had experienced.

01:26We did record this session and we collected several samples out of this.

01:31With all these elements, we created some layers that we introduced into the welcome sound,

01:39which means that whenever a person will enter a BMW, there will be salute and welcome

01:46with sound that is made up of the joy of other humans.

01:50The main sorts of inspirations for hypersonic have been elements taken from nature,

02:06elements taken from architecture, elements taken from art,

02:10everything that was really speaking to us in a different way.

02:15We went down to understand how, for instance, a stone is made up of,

02:20how light is behaving in space, how reflections of light can bring us a moment of joy.

02:27Can we translate all of this into sounds?

02:32Yes, we can. And this is what we have tried to do in the studio.

02:37We test the sound in a driving simulator and we try to understand whether the sound

02:42in which we believe there is a potential, there is also a match what the car is giving us back.

02:49The way the sound can unfold, it's much more complex and precise as compared to the previous generation.

02:55With hypersonics, we do have different driving sounds depending on the experience.

03:00You know, the personal sound is so important because it's the everyday life soundtrack of the driving action.

03:13This sonically expands on the sport mode in which there is much more precision to be heard

03:18and the acoustic feedback is very detailed, transmitting what the car is actually doing.

03:25Hippersonics will open a new era for sound design for our p&w NeuKlassen.
