Indian origin student sues Trump administration over deportation threat

An Indian origin student, Chinmay Deore along with two Chinese and one Nepalese student has sued the US Department of Homeland Security and immigration officials.

00:00This Indian-origin student along with three others have sued the Donald Trump administration.

00:04Their allegation is that their student immigration status was illegally terminated

00:08from the Students and Exchange Visitor Information System, SEVIS.

00:12India's Chinmay Deore filed the lawsuit with two Chinese and one Napoli student

00:15against the Department of Homeland Security and immigration officials last week.

00:19Chinmay is a student of Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan.

00:22They said to the court that neither were they charged with any crime

00:25nor did they violate any immigration laws.

00:27They were also not a part of any on-campus protests.

00:30Trump's administration has cracked down on foreign students in the US

00:33over alleged campus activism.

00:35Since Trump took office on January 20, 2025,

00:38more than 4,700 students have been deleted from SEVIS.

00:42Earlier this year, another Indian-origin student, Ranjani Srinivasan,

00:45self-reported themselves after their student visa was revoked

00:48for participating in pro-Palestinian protests.
