During Thursday's State Department press briefing, Spokesperson Tammy Bruce was asked about the announcement made by the Lebanese President Joseph Khalil Aoun about disarming Hezbollah.

00:00Thank you, Jamie. Appreciate it. Two questions. First off, number one, President of Lebanon

00:06remarked yesterday that he intends to disarm Hezbollah by the end of the year, but he said

00:12it needs to be done on a bilateral basis without foreign interference or foreign pressure. I wanted

00:17to get State's reaction to that comment from the Lebanese President and ask how it might shape

00:23Deputy Special Envoy Ortega's role going forward in dealing with the Lebanon portfolio.

00:30You know, you always ask me things that I have opinions on, would love to answer, but I can't

00:37as the State, I'm here to talk to you about, you know, what results of things, what we're

00:43intending, what we're doing, certainly not speculating on what Morgan Ortega will be able to do, what

00:51any Special Envoy will be able to do, what our response to another nation's leader will

00:57do, or what they are stating. What we do know, of course, and what is clear and remains clear,

01:04is that we want peace in that entire region, obviously. We are dealing with the Iran threat,

01:10which of course includes Hezbollah, let alone Hamas, and the Houthis. This is an over- this

01:16is an encompassing dynamic. So I leave that, for very good reason, to diplomats. And we'll- we know

01:23that they're addressing and aware of all the other aspects there, but we stand with Israel.
