The Lottery Winners frontman Thom Rylance shares his excitement for Lytham Festival, his memories of the event & why you should grab tickets.

00:00I'm talking to you because you and the lottery winners are coming to Lippon Festival.

00:04Can I start, Tom, by asking you how you're feeling to be performing at the festival?

00:09Well, it's such an incredible line-up.

00:11It's just amazing to be included on a poster with all those names like

00:15Stevie Wonder, Justin Timberlake, Kings of Leon.

00:19It's really stacked, isn't it?

00:21And I actually feel like it might be the best summer festival line-up in the country.

00:27Like, I haven't seen one as good.

00:28Have you yourself ever been to Lippon before?

00:31Yeah, we've played the festival twice.

00:33We played it in 2016 in a very minor way.

00:38We played in, like, a church, which was, like, not part of the main festival site,

00:44to barely anyone.

00:46And then we came back and played to a lot of people supporting Paul Weller

00:50a couple of years ago, which was incredible.

00:53And it's so lovely to be asked back again to play with Alanis Morissette.

00:59It's, again, just an absolute icon in the music industry,

01:03and I can't wait to meet her.

01:06If anything, starting from a church in Lippon to being on stage for Alanis Morissette,

01:10would you say it represents the Lot of Ewaners' excellent,

01:13I can't say that word, exponential growth over the last few years?

01:17Well, yeah, I hope so.

01:19I mean, it's going pretty well.

01:21We started off in literally playing open mic nights in pubs,

01:25and then now we've got a summer full of main stages at festivals and stadiums.

01:29So it is, yeah, it's quite different.

01:34It's growing.

01:37Aside from the Living Festival, have you ever just been to the Wild Coast for leisure?

01:41No, I haven't actually, but I will, because it's really nice.

01:45But I don't have any time for leisure.

01:47I don't know what that even means these days.

01:49I'm just somewhere else every day, just trying to get clapped at.

01:54Fair enough.

01:55But you're from Lee, aren't you?

01:57Yeah.

01:58So it's not too far from the Wild Coast.

02:00Did you never go as a child?

02:01No, I think we always kind of hit up Blackpool when I was a kid.

02:06But, you know, this rhythm is also excellent.

02:09So I think I'm going to go.

02:10You know, I've got a few days off now, so maybe I'll go now.

02:14Yeah.

02:14But no, you have been to Blackpool,

02:16so Blackpool is the main seaside resort off the Wild Coast.

02:19What are your memories of visiting Blackpool?

02:21I think I like Blackpool because it's kind of specifically designed to have fun in.

02:28Like, the whole thing is just, it's a little tacky, but in the best way.

02:33And I think it really suits me that, like, the front with all the arcades and the shops

02:40and the pleasure beach is, yeah, I've got a lot of fond memories from being a kid.

02:46And now, and more recently too.

02:48Again, being formerly, does it feel different performing at a festival in the North West?

02:52Does it mean more to you?

02:54Yeah, I think so.

02:56It kind of feels like a home crowd a lot of the time when you play locally.

03:01And that's always lovely, isn't it?

03:03Like, that's always the best gigs.

03:05Hopefully loads of people know who we are.

03:08Can you remember what the Lippin Festival audiences were like the last two times?

03:11Yeah, like, really receptive, really good.

03:15A lot of singing.

03:17And my favourite thing to do is we have a photographer that comes with us and he takes

03:22photos from the back of the stage.

03:24And I, like, zoom in on everyone's faces and I see a lot of joy.

03:28And if I can see that and we're kind of providing that, then that means that we've done a good

03:34job.

03:34And that's, like, the greatest thing that I can take away from a show.

03:37You've almost started saying it there, but I was next going to ask why should people,

03:41if they haven't got tickets yet, get tickets so that they can see the Lottow in as a Lippin

03:45Festival?

03:46Because I will provide them with joy.

03:48And then I will look at the picture of it on the way back.
