Owner of vessel in river accident hit for failing to take responsibility for crew
Commodore Geronimo Tuvilla of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) says in a press briefing on April 17, 2025 that a demand letter was sent to the owner of the vessel, as it has not taken responsibility for its crew and the accident. Four of the 25 crew members of the MV Hong Hai 16 died after the vessel, which was dredging a river in the town of Rizal, Occidental Mindoro on April 15 overturned. Search and rescue operations are ongoing for the seven missing. Fourteen have been rescued. Tuvilla said it has been the local government of Rizal that has been providing food and accommodation to the survivors.
