Transcript
00:00I looked at him I said you know there's there's something inside that guy that's pure gold
00:04and I believed in that and and I was right. Welcome to Miss Mojo and today we're counting
00:09down our picks for the notable romances that captured our hearts and then broke them. At
00:14this minute right here now specifically yeah yeah we're happy. Number 30 Nipsey Hussle and
00:22Lauren London. I don't have a celebrity crush I'm with my celebrity crush right there you go.
00:27Who's your celebrity crush? I ain't got no celebrity crush.
00:32Me. The Grammy nominated rapper's first and only full studio album was aptly named. After years of
00:38building a following with his mixtapes and community service Nipsey Hussle's victory lap
00:43was launching him into another echelon of fame.
00:45From 2013 to the time of his death he was in a relationship with actress Lauren London. The two
00:59shared a deep faith that marked their creative and personal decisions including London's decision to
01:04forego a dream tv role to have their son cross. The rapper's 2019 murder still haunts her but she's
01:10continued to show strength in the face of that pain. You know I always like my kids deserve a very
01:15happy mom. They deserve joy. Why would I rob them of that? You know so that gets me up.
01:23Number 29 Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall.
01:26What'd you do that for? I've been wondering whether I'd like it.
01:30What's the decision? I don't know yet.
01:33He was one of the biggest stars in Hollywood. She was a first-time actress getting her big break.
01:38But when Humphrey Bogart met Lauren Bacall on the set of the film To Have and Have Not it was the
01:43stuff dreams are made of. You know how to whistle don't you Steve? You just put your lips together and blow.
02:02Bogart ended his marriage and despite their nearly 25 year age difference they fell deeply in love.
02:07They starred in more films together playing out a version of their real-life love story for their audience.
02:12Bacall and Bogart remained married until his untimely death in 1957 at the age of 57.
02:18I was so mad about him that I just was like a fool. I was an idiot you know and I was and he he was more than I ever thought I would ever have in my life.
02:30Number 28. Ariana Grande and Mac Miller
02:33In her 2018 hit Thank You Next, Ariana Grande includes a particularly sweet shout-out to one of her exes.
02:39Wish I could say thank you to Malcolm
02:41Cause he was an angel
02:43To anyone in the know, this was a reference to Malcolm James McCormick, known professionally as Mac Miller.
02:49Grande and Miller were an item for almost two years.
02:52Grande's very real anguish at his shocking death in 2018 seems to suggest her love for him was very strong and very deep.
03:08Another ex of Grande's, Pete Davidson, said Miller's death shattered her so much that he knew their own engagement was over as a result.
03:16All I do know is that she really loved the s*** out of him and she wasn't like, you know, putting on a show or anything.
03:21Number 27. Helen McCrory and Damien Lewis
03:24They were a venerated acting power couple.
03:28Helen McCrory and Damien Lewis were beloved for their varied performances on the stage and screen,
03:33and their combined star power made them a fixture of British media.
03:36They were also known for their dedication to philanthropy.
03:39You know, we were sending pizzas originally to St. Mary's Paddington in UCLH before we realized how big this problem was.
03:45And the pictures of people not only so happy to eat because they've been there for so long,
03:51but also to know that everybody really cares and wants to give the kindness back that those people are giving us is such a privilege.
03:59Few people knew McCrory was ill with breast cancer before her death in 2021.
04:04She worked up until the very end.
04:05She's probably been a candidate for a seat that she just got in and she's just worked her way up
04:13because she's never questioned that she shouldn't be Prime Minister.
04:17One thing that marked their public-facing relationship was their sense of humour.
04:21Apparently, McCrory wanted Lewis to see other people after she passed away,
04:24only asking that he wait until after her funeral to find a date.
04:28She was celebrated by, you know, her tribe, her profession.
04:32She's much, much missed.
04:34Number 26, Martin Short and Nancy Dolman.
04:37So she, it was literally insanely good.
04:40She had like Joni Mitchell hair to hear and she'd come in with a velvet cape and sign.
04:46Hi guys, everyone, we're healthy, everyone's sick.
04:48And we'd go, hi.
04:49The Canadian funny man married his wife, Nancy Dolman,
04:52after meeting her during their run in the musical, Godspell.
04:56They were married a few years later, after which Dolman retired from acting
04:59to focus on being home to raise their family.
05:01They were together for 36 years before Dolman's death of ovarian cancer.
05:05And Short honoured his wife's wish that they should have a party instead of a funeral for her.
05:10Paul Schaefer came up, played piano.
05:13Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell were there.
05:15We sang.
05:16Friends and family got up and sang.
05:17We turned it into a Christmas party that we used to have where people perform.
05:22And, um, it was a celebration.
05:25But then I kind of went to the bonfire around four in the morning and hung there till dawn.
05:30Though Short has been open about the difficulty of grieving,
05:32he also shared that he still feels Dolman's presence.
05:35He once said that they were together so long and knew each other so well
05:39that he could still have a conversation with her as if she were in the room.
05:42I know exactly what she'd say.
05:44Because you do.
05:44We were together for 36 years.
05:46So at a certain point, you literally become one person.
05:49Finish each other's sentences.
05:51No kidding?
05:52Yeah.
05:52Number 25, John Lennon and Yoko Ono.
05:55We get a bit more respect in America as artists.
05:58But back home, I think it's the case for all artists,
06:01back home it's a bit like I'm the man that won the pools
06:04and lucky guy who had a spot of luck and married a Hawaiian actress, you know.
06:10And, uh, which isn't true, really.
06:12Despite the longtime myth that their love affair was responsible for the breakup of the Beatles,
06:16Yoko Ono and John Lennon fueled each other's art.
06:19She became Lennon's muse.
06:21And even his former bandmate Paul McCartney said that his beloved solo hits,
06:24like Imagine, would not have been possible without Ono's inspiration.
06:35The couple became famous and controversial for their shared sense of activism.
06:40Ono was with her husband at the time of his devastating and shocking murder in 1980.
06:44She's since dedicated her life to preserving her husband's legacy as an artist,
06:49musician, and human being.
06:51You still live in the Dakota building in New York?
06:52Yes, I am.
06:53And that's the building, of course, where John was murdered outside.
06:56You were with him when he was shot.
06:57Yes, but, you know, it was our home.
06:59That was the only home we had.
07:01And, uh, with...
07:01Well, that's the only home I had with John.
07:04I'm not going to leave it.
07:06Number 24, Betty White and Alan Ludden.
07:09Whenever she appeared on Password,
07:11the Golden Girls actress always had a lot of chemistry with the host.
07:15There's a reason.
07:16They were happily married.
07:17The Password tonight is...
07:19Home.
07:20Will you take me home, please, Mr. Ludden?
07:22I certainly will, Mr. Ludden.
07:24Betty White actually met her third husband, TV presenter Alan Ludden,
07:27on the set of Password in the early 1960s.
07:31When Ludden initially asked her to get married, she refused him for a year,
07:35but later said that she'd have given anything to have had that extra year.
07:39It was a love affair.
07:40We really had...
07:41We missed 18 years by three days, but it was still a honeymoon.
07:44Ludden died of stomach cancer in 1981.
07:47After his death, White refused to remarry.
07:50Their two-decade romance was enough for her.
07:52Apparently, when White passed away in 2021, at the age of 99,
07:56her last word was Alan.
07:57To have had that experience, I mean,
07:59there's some people who go through their whole lives without having the love of their life.
08:01If you've had the best, who needs the rest?
08:03Everybody says, how come you didn't get married again?
08:06Number 23, Kobe Bryant and Vanessa Bryant.
08:08I was always looking for her.
08:10Like, I wanted to know where she was.
08:11You know, I would finish a take and then go to my trailer,
08:15but I'd wonder where she is the entire time,
08:16and then come out of the trailer and just want to talk to her some more
08:19in between takes and stuff like that.
08:21There was a time when the legendary Los Angeles Laker
08:24was doing double duty as a basketball star and a recording artist.
08:28Though the music career didn't pan out,
08:30he did meet a music video background dancer named Vanessa,
08:33and the two fell in love.
08:34She became my best friend, you know?
08:36And for me, it was very different to have somebody that I was so close to
08:41because I had been so used to growing up in isolation, really.
08:45Over the years, the couple dealt with the ups and downs of fame and life,
08:49including a devastating miscarriage.
08:51But they held firm, even calling off an announced divorce at one point.
08:55The Bryant's love story was cut short in 2020
08:57when Kobe and their teenage daughter, Gianna, were killed in a helicopter crash.
09:02God knew they couldn't be on this earth without each other.
09:11He had to bring them home to heaven together.
09:13Number 22, Paul Michael Glaser and Elizabeth Glaser.
09:17This actor, director, and writer, and his wife
09:20experienced a tragedy that made them early activists
09:23in the fight against HIV slash AIDS.
09:26Paul Michael and Elizabeth Glaser had only been married for a year
09:29when she contracted the still incredibly new and mysterious virus
09:34via a blood transfusion.
09:35Within three minutes of the time that our doctor said to us,
09:40your daughter is infected and she is diagnosed as having AIDS,
09:44your son is infected and you are infected,
09:46he also said, don't tell anyone.
09:48Their daughter Ariel would later pass away
09:50due to complications from the disease.
09:52Both Paul and Elizabeth fought to establish protections and research grants.
09:56I went to Washington to tell Presidents Reagan and Bush
10:00that much, much more had to be done for AIDS research and care
10:04and that children couldn't be forgotten.
10:07The first time when nothing happened,
10:11I thought they just didn't hear me.
10:13Elizabeth also passed away due to complications from AIDS in 2004.
10:18Their personal difficulties led to a legacy of activism
10:20and the creation of the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation,
10:25which is still in operation.
10:27Her attitude wasn't why, it was why not.
10:33And she would never accept no.
10:36She'd say, we're going to get to this level.
10:39How are we going to do it?
10:40We'll figure it out.
10:41Number 21, John Travolta and Kelly Preston.
10:44It started out like a classic Hollywood love story.
10:47There's no time for sex games.
10:48I mean, you know, the gun, it's an exciting touch and everything.
10:51The Grease actor met the Jerry Maguire actress
10:53on the set of a movie in the late 1980s.
10:55Although that film was a bomb,
10:57John Travolta and Kelly Preston were probably grateful to have been in it
11:01because that's where they met and fell in love.
11:03I saw him across the room.
11:05I was in the lobby and I see this, like,
11:07walking across the lobby.
11:11So, you know, that was it.
11:12Over their 29-year marriage, they had three children.
11:15A personal tragedy rocked the family in 2009
11:17when their son Jet suddenly died while on a family vacation.
11:21Tragedy struck again in 2020
11:23when Preston passed away from breast cancer.
11:26She was only 57 years old.
11:28Number 20, Steve Irwin and Terry Irwin.
11:31Have a look at this Sheila.
11:32She's just beautiful.
11:34Next thing, the crocodile's trying to kill me.
11:35So, oh, better concentrate on what I'm doing.
11:37And I kept watching her, watching her.
11:39Sure enough, she stayed back.
11:40We started talking about some really hot wildlife issues.
11:44The Australian conservationist may have been an unlikely TV star,
11:49but his endearing personality and unwavering dedication to all things wildlife
11:53soared him to international stardom in the 1990s
11:56via his show The Crocodile Hunter.
11:58Steve Irwin's passion for wildlife and its conservation
12:01was shared by his wife and co-star, Terry.
12:04Unfortunately, in 2006, at only 44 years old,
12:08a stingray injury resulted in his death.
12:11Though their story together ended,
12:12Steve's legacy lives on in their children, Bindi and Robert,
12:16who proudly took up their parents' line of work.
12:19Terry had said that she may never remarry
12:21and that she's okay with having already had her happily ever after with Steve.
12:26Can you see another Steve Irwin?
12:29I just can't.
12:30I'd be like, I love that you're a librarian
12:34and the duodecimal system is cool,
12:37but I gotta go jump a crocodile.
12:41Number 19, Patton Oswalt and Michelle McNamara.
12:44Comedian and character actor Patton Oswalt
12:46married true crime author Michelle McNamara in 2005.
12:50The two were heavyweights in their respective careers.
12:53Michelle would actually go to the crime scene and walk in a case.
12:57Geographic connections, DNA profiles, genealogy website.
13:00The first time she called me, I thought, hmm, she knows her stuff.
13:04McNamara's life work was a book about the Golden State Killer,
13:07a serial murderer who preyed on California in the 1970s and 80s.
13:11Sadly, McNamara passed away suddenly in 2016,
13:15before she could finish her manuscript.
13:17And it's happening right as she's putting all this new stuff together
13:20and then it's just cut off.
13:22And it's this, you know, it lands like such a, you know, for me, obviously,
13:28because, but it lands like a body blow.
13:30Oswalt worked to ensure that McNamara's efforts were not in vain.
13:34He oversaw the completion and publication of her book,
13:37I'll Be Gone in the Dark,
13:38later expressing that finishing the book was as painful as it was rewarding.
13:43Michelle was so complex and surprising a person.
13:46And it's impossible for me to ever just predict what she would have thought.
13:51It would be, she would have thought something
13:53that I could not have imagined or anticipated.
13:56That's what was so amazing about her.
13:58Number 18, Paul McCartney and Linda McCartney.
14:01Paul McCartney met Linda Eastman when he was still in The Beatles,
14:05and she was a photographer of famous musicians.
14:07Well, I was in England taking photographs for a book,
14:10and I thought I'd like to photograph The Beatles and Stevie Winwood,
14:14who's a great favourite of mine,
14:16and we happened to meet down in a club.
14:19It's one of them.
14:19I pulled her down in a club.
14:21The two married in 1969.
14:23Once The Beatles broke up,
14:24Paul and Linda fronted a pop band all their own.
14:27They released several incredible hit records
14:29under the name Paul McCartney and Wings.
14:31Only my love holds the other key.
14:37The couple created a beautiful family
14:38and spent much of their lives together as champions of animal rights.
14:42But Linda and Paul's story came to an end in the late 1990s.
14:46She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1995,
14:49and she passed away three years later at the age of 56.
14:53It's very easy to live in the shadow, isn't it?
14:55Did you feel a necessity to break out?
14:58No, I'm not really worried about that living in the shadow.
15:01You know, I love life, and I'll just have a good time.
15:04Shadow or no shadow.
15:05Number 17, Grace Kelly and Prince Regnier III of Monaco.
15:09If any Hollywood actress was fit to be a princess, it was Grace Kelly.
15:14Her dignified and chic on-screen persona
15:16made her marriage to Prince Regnier of Monaco
15:19seem all the more like a fairytale romance.
15:22Nobody talks of anything but the wedding.
15:24Far from the pumpkin coach of a Cinderella
15:26is the glamour of the great occasion.
15:29Yet all who love romance have made it their own treasured occasion.
15:32Their lavish wedding captured the world's attention.
15:35She never made a real return to movies after the marriage.
15:38Instead, prioritising her duties as princess.
15:41I would like to be remembered as trying to do my job well,
15:48of being understanding and kind.
15:51In 1982, Kelly suffered a cerebral hemorrhage while driving,
15:55and she and her daughter Stephanie were injured in a car accident.
15:59Both were lucky enough to survive the crash,
16:01but while Kelly was expected to make a full recovery,
16:04she was struck with a second fatal hemorrhage at the hospital.
16:08Regnier never remarried, and when he died in 2005,
16:11he was buried beside his deceased wife.
16:14It's pretty obvious that he was deeply affected,
16:19and he wasn't quite the same man as he was before the accident.
16:26With so many marriages comes a lot of heartbreak.
16:32After two divorces, Liz Taylor's third husband, Mike Todd,
16:36devastatingly died in a plane crash.
16:39Then there was her tempestuous marriage to Richard Burton
16:42that looms largest over her romantic history.
16:44I think having a fight, an out and out, outrageous, ridiculous fight,
16:50is one of the greatest exercises in marital togetherness.
16:56They were married in 1964, divorced in 1974,
17:00and then remarried a year later in 1975,
17:03only to re-divorce the next year.
17:05They were as electric off-screen as they were on,
17:08and the passion in their relationship inevitably destroyed it.
17:11We loved each other almost too much, it sounds silly.
17:15No, it doesn't.
17:16But it was so intense that it was almost abnormal.
17:24Taylor remarried twice more, but there was no getting over Burton,
17:27who died in 1984.
17:29Their former houses in Puerto Vallarta
17:31are still a tourist attraction for visiting lovers,
17:34with the bridge that connected them dubbed the Lover's Arch.
17:37Number 15, Selena Quintanilla Perez and Chris Perez.
17:42The story of Selena's life is tragic enough.
17:45She was only 23 years old and on the cusp of worldwide superstardom
17:49when she was murdered by her friend and business colleague,
17:52Yolanda Saldivar.
17:53The performer left behind her husband, musician,
17:56and Selena y los Dinos guitarist, Chris Perez.
17:59Their love story was full of obstacles,
18:01including the disapproval of Selena's father.
18:04He said, he's like, whatever it is stops now.
18:07And being that I was taken aback,
18:10that could have been an opportunity to try to,
18:15you know, to say something and be open.
18:19But the only words that came out were like, okay.
18:22Selena and Perez eloped,
18:24estranging them from her family for a time.
18:26But tensions had eased by the time of her death,
18:29and Selena was about to release an English crossover album
18:32when she passed away.
18:33Their story has since been immortalized in films, print, and TV.
18:38I know why they love you so much.
18:40Oh yeah, why?
18:45Because I love you too.
18:46Number 14, Keanu Reeves and Jennifer Syme.
18:49Keanu Reeves' easy and warm demeanor can't have come easy
18:52if you know what he's been through.
18:54There's this sort of mythology that surrounds you,
18:56that you're sad.
18:57That, you know, there's this whole sad Keanu thing.
19:02You know, that you're someone who carries quite a lot of burdens around with you.
19:05He and his former partner, Jennifer Syme,
19:07were both waist deep in the entertainment industry.
19:09Reeves was and is a movie star.
19:12And Syme was an assistant who had worked closely
19:14with director David Lynch for nearly a decade.
19:17Their two-year relationship was hit hard by their daughter's stillbirth.
19:20The grief was too much and they ended their relationship.
19:24However, soon afterwards, they got back together.
19:26Unfortunately, their reconnection didn't get the time it deserved
19:29because in 2001, Syme was killed in a car accident.
19:34Reeves marks the tragedy as a major turning point in his life.
19:37You'll go on and have a beautiful life.
19:40The one you deserve.
19:42I only want you.
19:43You have me forever.
19:50Number 13, Spencer Tracy and Katherine Hepburn.
19:53It was a known secret that the two frequent co-stars
19:56were lovers for over two decades.
19:58However, the circumstances that never allowed them to be open
20:01about their relationship were complicated.
20:03The Hollywood press and at that time, the gossip columnists,
20:06they let you alone.
20:07They let us alone because I think they thought
20:09that we made a great deal of effort.
20:12Not to sort of parade ourselves around.
20:16Old Hollywood studios maintained tight control over bad publicity.
20:20Spencer Tracy, a lifelong Catholic, refused to divorce his estranged wife,
20:24who refused right back.
20:26Hepburn became Tracy's live-in nurse at the end of his life,
20:29caring for him in his final days.
20:31However, his legal marriage meant that once Tracy passed away in 1967,
20:36respect had to be upheld.
20:38Hepburn, who found his body, was left out of media reports of his death
20:41and did not go to his funeral out of courtesy for his family.
20:45I was not his wife.
20:47Has there ever been a man since Spencer Tracy who really interested you?
20:51No, no, but I mean, then I was old, so it didn't matter.
20:54Number 12, Brittany Murphy and Simon Monjack.
20:57The deaths of Brittany Murphy and her husband, British screenwriter Simon Monjack,
21:01have captivated and disturbed fans for years.
21:04He was mysterious in the way of, like,
21:06who are you?
21:08But we didn't know what happened.
21:09All we knew is that this young,
21:1132-year-old Hollywood starlet had suddenly died.
21:15Rumors about Murphy's health and substance use disorder,
21:18as well as allegations about Monjack's past
21:21and his being a controlling husband, ran rampant.
21:25When Monjack died a few months later, however,
21:27it only reignited speculation,
21:29this time about everything from medical conditions
21:32to toxic mould in the couple's home.
21:34A 2021 documentary was released,
21:36but it didn't do much to illuminate the public
21:38about one of Hollywood's biggest modern-day tragedies.
21:42I can't say why or what happened in that house.
21:46It became a really awful tragedy that should never have happened.
21:51But to the reason why it happened is very difficult to state.
21:57Number 11, Laurence Olivier and Vivian Leigh.
22:00Two-time Oscar winner Vivian Leigh met Laurence Olivier
22:03on the set of Fire Over England.
22:05Their love affair was marked by career highs,
22:07lows, infidelity and mental health crisis.
22:11While the two were purportedly irrevocably in love,
22:14Leigh's bipolar disorder and Olivier's affairs
22:16led to heavy emotional disturbances for them both.
22:19He couldn't go on.
22:21You know, it was exhausting him.
22:23Suddenly being awakened in the middle of the night
22:25by being hit in the face with a towel or something.
22:28They were divorced in 1960,
22:30although it was said their marriage was over long before then.
22:33Leigh died of tuberculosis in 1967.
22:36Despite being divorced and having found new life partners by then,
22:40Olivier rushed over to see her,
22:41even though she was already gone.
22:43Whatever you read, he spent a whole six hours,
22:45during which time he was quite hysterical.
22:48He was shattered.
22:49Jack rang him up when he went round,
22:52then saw the body,
22:53and he was absolutely shattered.
22:55Number 10, Marilyn Monroe and Joe DiMaggio.
22:58Blind dates can be disasters waiting to happen,
23:00but when the biggest movie star met the biggest sports star
23:03on one such date in the early 1950s,
23:06the world seemed to stop.
23:08He understood something about me,
23:11and I understood something about him,
23:14and we based our marriage on it.
23:17Joe DiMaggio and Marilyn Monroe's whirlwind romance
23:20was the stuff of Hollywood dreams.
23:21Their deep passion, however,
23:23belied a tense and sometimes a violent marriage.
23:27DiMaggio was reportedly jealous of Monroe's status
23:29as a cinematic sex symbol.
23:31Oh, so you were around during that business
23:33that caused all the fuss with the skirt blowing up on the...
23:36Yeah, he doesn't get very, very sick of it.
23:38Did he really, or was that just...
23:39Really.
23:40Despite divorcing several years before,
23:42DiMaggio claimed the star's body after her death in 1962,
23:46and even helped with funeral arrangements.
23:48As the famous story goes,
23:50he would then send roses to her grave
23:52for two decades afterwards.
23:54A witness who was with him when he died
23:56even said DiMaggio's last words were about Monroe.
24:00I call him in my book the demon lover,
24:02because once Marilyn dies,
24:05he remains utterly devoted and faithful to her.
24:08Number nine, Heath Ledger and Michelle Williams.
24:11Michelle Williams and Heath Ledger met and began dating
24:14while playing a married couple in Brokeback Mountain.
24:16That was happy at work.
24:19For a reason we both understand.
24:21Yeah.
24:23You fell in love on that movie.
24:25I did.
24:26I did.
24:27The couple soon moved in together
24:28and welcomed their daughter to the world.
24:31In late 2007, however, they broke up.
24:33And not long after that,
24:35Ledger suddenly passed away,
24:36mere months after completing his work on The Dark Knight.
24:40Though the two weren't together at the time of his death,
24:42his loss had a profound effect on Williams.
24:44I can find meanings in things and people
24:47and relationships that have sprung up
24:50and friendships that have strengthened.
24:51I can find a lot of meaning in that.
24:56But not in why.
24:57Both actors in this Hollywood power couple
24:59were famously hesitant
25:00about putting their personal lives on display for the public.
25:04But the ensuing media circus surrounding the end of his life,
25:07as well as rumors about what may have caused it,
25:09brought unwanted attention to the details of their relationship.
25:12Do you understand why people are so curious
25:16about your tragedy, the tragedy that happened to you?
25:21Do I understand?
25:23Sure.
25:24Yeah, I do.
25:26I relate to it.
25:27Number eight, Pierce Brosnan and Cassandra Harris.
25:31Before he became the face of James Bond in the 1990s,
25:34Pierce Brosnan was actually married to a former Bond actress,
25:37Cassandra Harris,
25:38had appeared as a glamorous countess romanced by Roger Moore
25:42in 1981's For Your Eyes Only.
25:45What exactly did Columbo whisper to you?
25:47That you were a spy,
25:49to find out more about you.
25:52And have you?
25:55Have I ever.
25:57Harris passed away in 1991
25:58from ovarian cancer at the age of 43.
26:01The actors had one son together,
26:02and after her death,
26:03Brosnan adopted Harris's two children
26:05from a previous marriage.
26:07Brosnan remarried in 2001.
26:09However, he is still a devoted advocate
26:11for ovarian cancer awareness.
26:14In 2013, Harris's daughter
26:15and Brosnan's stepdaughter, Charlotte,
26:17ended up passing away from the same disease.
26:19To watch someone you love
26:22have his or her life eaten away bit by bit
26:26by this insidious disease,
26:29that kind of sorrow becomes an indelible part of your psyche.
26:34Number seven, Clark Gable and Carol Lombard.
26:37She was the blonde bombshell with a wicked sense of humour,
26:40and he was the virile leading man
26:41of swashbucklers and rom-coms alike.
26:44Together, they were a power couple.
26:46Though Gable had been romantically linked
26:48with many actresses, his relationship
26:49and three-year marriage to Lombard
26:51remains one for the books.
26:53They were two of the most beautiful people in Hollywood,
26:56and they were married,
26:57and they had this supposed idyllic life,
27:00so I think that they epitomized
27:02the glamour of a lost time,
27:05like a pre-World War II innocence.
27:07Things were sadly cut short in 1942.
27:10Lombard was on a tour selling war bonds
27:12when she, her mother, and Gable's press agent
27:15died in a violent airplane crash.
27:17His wife's untimely death spurred him
27:19to join the war effort,
27:20and he became a pilot in the Army Air Forces
27:23before making a return to films.
27:25Long-time friends would say
27:26he was never the same after losing Lombard.
27:29Carol Lombard was the love of Gable's life,
27:32and so she was the woman
27:33that he could never have again.
27:34He was the woman he could look for
27:35and try to replace and try to possess,
27:38but he could never replace her
27:39because there was only one Carol Lombard.
27:41Number six, Patrick Swayze and Lisa Niemey.
27:44He was easily one of the most charming leading men
27:47of the 80s and 90s.
27:49Patrick Swayze was a heartthrob for millions,
27:52but only Lisa Niemey got to call him hers.
27:55The two were aspiring dancers
27:56when they married in 1975
27:57and were together until his heartbreaking death
28:00from pancreatic cancer in 2009.
28:03This journey so far has been a journey,
28:06and she's helped me get through it,
28:08whether it takes getting me angry,
28:10you know, whether it's calming me down,
28:12whether it's firing me up,
28:13whether it's inspiring me.
28:15Until the end, the two were devoted to each other.
28:17Niemey took charge of Swayze's care.
28:19She kept track of his medical records and medications
28:21and made specifically prepared meals
28:24to keep his weight up.
28:25As a licensed pilot,
28:26she even flew Swayze to his cancer treatments.
28:28Though she has since remarried,
28:30Niemey maintains that Swayze's death
28:32that wasn't the end of their love story.
28:34Just because somebody's gone
28:35doesn't mean you fall out of love.
28:38And my wise friend said
28:41that's because love comes from the same well.
28:43Number five, Lea Michele and Corey Monteith.
28:46Glee was a cultural phenomenon
28:47with a dedicated fandom.
28:49So when it was announced
28:50that co-stars and on-screen lovers,
28:52Lea Michele and Corey Monteith,
28:53were dating in real life,
28:55fans were immediately invested.
28:57For them, it felt like they had followed the relationship
28:59through the characters they played.
29:01Losing Monteith so suddenly in 2013
29:13was a crushing blow to Gleeks everywhere.
29:16And we can't even imagine the pain Michelle went through.
29:19Monteith was only 31,
29:20but had struggled with substance use disorder
29:22for most of his adult life.
29:24In the series' fifth season,
29:26the show aired an entire episode
29:27dedicated to the death of his character,
29:29Finn Hudson,
29:30which served as a stand-in
29:32for a public memorial
29:33for the actor who played him.
29:35Go to the ends of the earth for you
29:39To make you feel my love
29:45Number four, Gene Wilder and Gilda Radner.
29:49The former SNL cast member
29:50and Willy Wonka star
29:51were both high-profile celebrities
29:53when they met on the set of Hanky Panky in 1981.
29:57Gilda Radner and Gene Wilder married in 1984
30:00and were, by all accounts, crazy about each other.
30:03To me, it's irresistible.
30:05A funny man is irresistible,
30:07more than any looks, more than anything.
30:09She was always a sucker for a big laugh.
30:11A sucker for a laugh.
30:12After the couple's several unsuccessful attempts
30:15to have children,
30:16Radner experienced pain and fatigue
30:18that went misdiagnosed.
30:19It took almost a year for Radner to be diagnosed
30:22with ovarian cancer that would later kill her.
30:24Wilder dedicated himself to advocacy about the disease,
30:27opening up foundations in her name.
30:29While they were only together for about eight years,
30:31these two comedic geniuses lived
30:33and loved enough for a lifetime.
30:36I don't know if you are going to make a masterpiece
30:39in the movie,
30:41but you are going to have a masterpiece in real life.
30:44Number three, Liam Neeson and Natasha Richardson.
30:47Like many of the couples on this list,
30:49these two esteemed actors met when they became co-stars.
30:53Liam Neeson, the stage actor turned action hero,
30:56met Natasha Richardson,
30:57the product of one of England's foremost acting dynasties
31:01while working on Broadway in the early 1990s.
31:04She and I were like Astaire and Rogers.
31:07We had just this wonderful kind of dance,
31:11free dance on stage every night.
31:14They married and had two sons.
31:15In 2009, Richardson injured her head during a skiing lesson.
31:20Although she walked away from the incident seemingly unscathed,
31:23she subsequently passed away due to internal bleeding in the head.
31:26Neeson, at least, derives comfort in the fact
31:29that her organs were donated to keep three other people alive.
31:33Her heart, her kidneys, and her liver.
31:36That must give you a good feeling.
31:37It's terrific, yeah.
31:39It's terrific.
31:39And I think she would be very thrilled and pleased with that too, actually.
31:44Number two, Meryl Streep and John Kazal.
31:47John Kazal, who gave stunning and subtle performances
31:49in some of the greatest movies of the decade,
31:52was an acting powerhouse.
31:54In 1976, he began seeing his very talented co-star
31:57and up-and-coming actress named Meryl Streep.
32:00Stand beside her and guide her
32:05through the night with the light from above.
32:10Just as she was making her big break in movies like Julia and The Deer Hunter,
32:14Streep was going through an impossibly painful situation.
32:18Kazal was dying of lung cancer.
32:20Streep took all the time off that they could afford,
32:22given the mounting medical bills and her budding fame,
32:25to care for him.
32:26When Kazal passed on in 1978,
32:28it profoundly changed her as a person and artist.
32:32He was lucky enough to have as the last vision of his life,
32:36Meryl's lovely face.

32:511. Christopher Reeve and Dana Reeve
32:56In 1995, the Superman actor's life changed forever
32:59when he was thrown from a horse.
33:02Christopher Reeve stopped breathing for several minutes before being revived,
33:05and when he awoke in hospital, he was paralyzed from the neck down.
33:08The bottom, very bottom of my left foot,
33:10I can feel when somebody touches it lightly.
33:13When somebody touches it lightly, and I have feeling in my shoulders.
33:19And of course, my head and neck and all of that, my head is very sensitive.
33:22Initially, he expressed to his wife, Dana Morosini,
33:25that he didn't want his condition to become a burden on her.
33:28But she supported him through rehabilitation,
33:31and his grief over his disability soon transformed into a renewed sense of purpose.
33:35I think this is a real test of the wedding pals.
33:39He's my partner. He's my other half, literally.
33:42There's, I, I couldn't, I don't,
33:45it's not within the realm of my imagination to do anything less than what I'm doing.
33:51They turned to humanitarianism,
33:53which they continued until Christopher's death in 2004,
33:56and Dana's own death from lung cancer only two years later.
34:00Who is your favorite celebrity couple?
34:02Tell us in the comments.
34:03Betty!
34:05You, darling!
34:07I thought you'd be pleased now.
34:09I'd be surprised, and then I'd be irritated.
34:12Well, that's what I mean, for heaven's sakes.
34:14A vote of confidence, a guy my age needs it.
34:16A vote of confidence, a man,
34:37and then I'll give you the words to you and me, if you think,
34:37and that's what I want.
