Scott Bessent Says China Won't 'Weaponize' US Treasuries, Citing Risk To RMB And Exports: 'We Do Buybacks'

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent dismissed fears that China could destabilize U.S. financial markets by dumping Treasuries, according to Yahoo Finance. Bessent said China has little reason to sell U.S. Treasuries because doing so would undermine China's weak-currency policy, making its exports less competitive. He added that the U.S. government and Federal Reserve are prepared with tools such as buybacks and coordinated action if needed.
