Hi, I'm Laura Reid, the Deputy Features Editor at the Yorkshire Post, and here's a look at
00:04
what's coming up in the week ahead. Yorkshire runners will be among thousands taken to the
00:09
streets of the capital this weekend. Finishers in this year's TCS London Marathon could help
00:15
the 45th edition of the event to enter the record books as the largest marathon in the world for
00:21
the first time. The event already holds the record for being the most popular marathon after 840,000
00:27
people applied through the public ballot for 2025. It's also the world's largest one-day fundraising
00:33
event, having raised more than £1.3 billion for charity since the first edition in 1981.
00:40
Guinness World Records will also crown it as the world's largest marathon for the first time in its
00:44
history if the number of finishers on Sunday, April 27 surpasses the 55,646 who completed the New York
00:53
Marathon in November. This week also sees the return of the first major event in the national
00:59
gardening calendar. Harrogate Spring Flower Show showcases the best in horticulture with show garden
01:04
features, live talks and demonstrations, garden shopping opportunities and the biggest exhibition
01:09
by florists and flower arrangers in the country. It's hosted by the North of England Horticultural
01:14
Society and this year is taking place from April 24th to the 27th at the Great Yorkshire Showground.
01:20
The UK Edible Insect Association is holding a conference in Nottingham this week, bringing
01:27
together traditional farmers, insect farmers, vets, chefs and waste disposal experts to promote the
01:32
benefits of insect protein. It's named NEST 1.0 and it's badged as an opportunity for those with an
01:38
interest in farmed insect protein in the UK to come together to share knowledge and expertise
01:43
and develop plans for the sector. The association says it envisages a future where insects are added to
01:48
place as a sustainable option for alternative protein. And 100 years ago this week saw the Sheffield
01:57
murder of William Plummer. The First World War veteran and former boxer was killed in front of his
02:01
young son by gang members on April 27th 1925. A memorial event is taking place to celebrate his life a
02:09
century on and descendants and locals will be coming together next to a memorial plaque for him on Saturday.
