There are exciting new development plans at the CO-OP Live arena

Here is all you need to know about the proposed new canal side development at the co-op live arena.

00:00Hello and welcome to Manchester World. My name is Theo Hewson-Betz and today we're talking a little

00:04bit about property development here in the city that's based around the Co-op Live Arena. Now,

00:09the concert venue has been a big success for nearly a year now despite an initially troubled

00:13opening. Its impact around the city has been massive, particularly around the Etihad campus

00:19and if these plans go ahead, it's about to get bigger. Now, it was announced earlier this week

00:23that a new canal side development is being planned by those behind the Co-op Arena.

00:27The plan is to further draw people in towards the Etihad campus to try and make it a bit of a

00:33hotspot for tourism as well as a place that local people might just want to hang out. Now, at the

00:37minute, it's just a proposal. In fact, plans haven't even been submitted to Manchester Council but they

00:42would see a new space on the area's south terrace featuring a bar, cafe and kitchen open up along

00:48with a merchandise store. This would serve the local community as well as concert goers with 600 people

00:53able to fit in the space, which would also be able to function as a function room. Now, the plans are

00:59yet to even be submitted to Manchester City Council, as I say, so it's very early stages. However, with the

01:04positive impact that the arena's had on the local economy, the likelihood is that they'll be given

01:09some sort of backing so long as there are no real issues brought up by the locals around the area.

01:14For the Co-op Live Arena itself, having opened in May last year to initially lots of excitement,

01:18delays and issues had cooled enthusiasm. Since then, though, the reputation of the arena has been

01:24enhanced massively. It's a 23,500 people-seater arena and it's got a wonderful sound system and has

01:30already arranged concerts for stars such as Noah Khan, Paul McCartney and many more. Now, let us know
