00:00 Liam Gallagher has been announced as the latest act set to take to the stage at Manchester's new Co-op Live Arena next year.
00:08 And we get the latest news on the Man United takeover.
00:11 I spoke to Adam Lord, the editor of Manchester World, to find out what's been happening in our region.
00:17 Hi Adam, can you tell us what stories have been in the headlines this week?
00:21 Hi Emma, how are we doing this week?
00:23 Yeah, it's been the Manchester United takeover that's been dominating the agenda.
00:27 Qatari bidder Sheikh Jassim dramatically pulled out of the process a few days ago.
00:32 That seemingly paved the way for Sir Jim Ratcliffe to sail on in, take over Old Trafford.
00:37 A few eyebrows have been raised about the news because the Ineos boss looks like he's going to take a 25% stake in the club,
00:42 rather than a complete takeover that Qataris have planned.
00:45 He wants control of matters on the field immediately, but he's likely minority shareholding.
00:50 It means there's a lot of questions supporters have and they want answering.
00:53 Gary Neville, for instance, listed 16 on social media just a couple of days ago.
00:59 So there's plenty still to be ironed out with that one.
01:01 What other stories have got people talking this week?
01:04 So after the HS2 line to Manchester was obviously axed by Rishi Sunak in Manchester, of all places,
01:09 there's been talk about Network North and what that might look like for local transport infrastructure.
01:13 And for us it could include a potential expansion of the Metrolink network.
01:17 It's become an increasingly big issue.
01:19 First of all, people in Bolton have been speaking about their hopes about seeing trams in the near future.
01:24 And the same goes for Stockport as well.
01:26 We've had a major gig announcement this week, haven't we?
01:29 We have. Liam Gallagher.
01:31 He's the latest big name to be announced for the new Co-op Live Arena that's opening next spring.
01:35 The Oasis legend has announced three dates in June 2024 as part of his Definitely Maybe tour.
01:41 You'll see him play the record in full on its 30th anniversary, so you'll get some absolutely classics.
01:45 It's a big one for Oasis fans. Presale went absolutely mad on Wednesday when Co-op opened it up.
01:49 It means tickets are already available on resale sites for about £1,100.
01:53 And as we speak, obviously they haven't even gone on general sale yet, so that might even get even worse.
01:58 Looking ahead to the weekend, what's on in Manchester?
02:01 Fans have got to wait for Liam, but it's a busy few days at the O Arena this weekend.
02:05 Peter Cage with residency is back for a couple of nights.
02:07 And then we've got S Club returning for the second night of their reunion after opening the tour in Manchester earlier this month.
02:12 That's proved really popular.
02:13 Back to football, what's on the agenda for United and City this week?
02:17 So there is a big sigh of relief, relief all around for football fans as the international break is over.
02:21 The Premier League is back on Saturday.
02:23 City host Brighton at 3pm looking to overcome what's been a little wobble by their ridiculously high standards.
02:29 Pep Guardiola knows the visitors will be no pushovers though.
02:32 He's got all the makings of a really good game at the Etihad.
02:34 Then at 8pm, United are at Sheffield United.
02:38 Eric Ten Hag's side need to prove that that late Scott McTominay inspired comeback against Bretford wasn't a fluke.
02:44 And he kind of struggled against the Blades side, pretty much nailed on for relegation.
02:48 He's a real sign it's going to be a long, hard season at Old Trafford.
02:50 After what, let's be truthful, has been a bit of a shocking start.
02:53 One thing's for sure with United at the moment, it is never dull.
02:56 That's your round-up of what's been happening in Manchester this week.
03:00 Make sure to tune in next time to stay up to date.
