00:00I am aware that this alteration is comprehensive and irreversible.
00:09Hi, I'm Alex from NME, and today I'm joined by the stars of Severance.
00:13It's Britt Lauer and Adam Scott. How we doing?
00:15Good.
00:16We've got some fan questions, so I hope you're ready for those.
00:18Always.
00:19First up, one for both of you.
00:21If Mr. Milchick threw a dance party for you in real life, what song would you pick?
00:26What about the Hokey Pokey, which in England is called...
00:31The Hokey Cokey.
00:32In the US, saying something is cokey is referring to something in the 80s that was kind of cokey.
00:41Right. Well, I was just referring to the fact that we're the Hokey Cokey.
00:44I think they might have that as well out here.
00:46That's our music dance experience.
00:47Yes.
00:48It's going to be really cool.
00:49Yes.
00:50Okay, so we'll go with the Hokey Cokey then.
00:52Hokey Cokey.
00:53One question to answer.
00:54One for you, Adam.
00:56When you were reading the script, which direction did you want Mark to go?
01:01Outside Lumen with Gemma or inside with Ellie?
01:04Because you must have been rooting for someone.
01:06Well, I kind of thought of it from the point of view of who was standing there, which was
01:13any Mark, and so I think that where it ended up going made perfect sense for him.
01:21Similar, but in the final corridor scene, do you think it's Heli or Helena?
01:28It's Heli, R.
01:29Yeah?
01:30Yeah.
01:31Yeah.
01:32It was written that way and there's no elevator switch.
01:35I don't know why people think it's...
01:37Well, she's running barefoot and that's a sign of Heli.
01:41Heli doesn't like to wear heels.
01:43This question for you, Adam, is a bit, you might disagree with it, but Mark's hair looked
01:50so good in the flashbacks.
01:52Why did he ruin it?
01:53Yeah.
01:54Well, the severance, the Mark S hair that's usually on the show is an invention entirely
02:02of Ben Stiller.
02:04And so, yeah, we were looking for ways to kind of see how I could look different.
02:09And so all we did was give me a haircut.
02:11That's all it is.
02:12And I guess it made a big difference.
02:15I mean, you know, I have to grow my hair out whenever we're shooting the show and I have
02:20to have that hair for, you know, a year at a time.
02:23So it was great to be able to get a haircut.
02:26We shot that episode last so we could give me a haircut.
02:30Britt, if you had a boring office job that you hated, would you consider severance?
02:35I don't think so.
02:36I mean, the scene where the chip is inserted, that's a really long needle.
02:42I don't like that needle.
02:44It's a long needle.
02:45Yeah.
02:46No thanks.
02:47You wouldn't either?
02:48I don't think so.
02:49I don't think so.
02:50I would really have to hate that job.
02:53Yeah.
02:54But you never know.
02:55I mean, there are some jobs that I've been on some sets that I've wished I was severed
03:00from over the years.
03:02Film work will be remembered as one of the greatest moments of this planet.
03:07You don't value them.
03:11You fear them.
03:13We fear no one.
03:16Come on, man!
03:17And Adam, I've got another question for you.
03:20You might not have heard of it yet, but what do you think of the theory, and it's a funny
03:23one, that Mr. Milchick is actually a milkshake?
03:26It's actually a milkshake.
03:27Have you heard that one?
03:29Since Tramiel Tillman playing him, it would be a delicious milkshake.
03:35Yeah.
03:36Yeah.
03:37The world-class milkshake.
03:38Yeah.
03:39That's like, I was searching for theories on Reddit, and that was like top.
03:42I know it's a joke one, because some of the reasons are like…
03:44I like that the theories are just that we're not people.
03:46Yeah.
03:47Yeah.
03:48That we're goats, milkshakes.
03:49We're goats or milkshakes.
03:51Okay, Britt, one more for you then.
03:54I think I can probably answer this one, but why isn't there basic security in the office
03:59on the severed floor?
04:01Yeah.
04:02It's so funny.
04:03They, I guess they, I don't know.
04:06Well, there's…
04:07There's security cameras.
04:09Yeah, and then there was, Grainer was there.
04:13Yeah.
04:14Drummond and…
04:15I guess they just sort of have this hubris lumen, a little bit of hubris that they believe.
04:21What is Cobell's line that's like, the best way to keep a prisoner is to make them think
04:28they're free?
04:29Yeah.
04:30Adam, another one for you.
04:32And this is the one I'm most interested in.
04:34Is there any significance to the ties that Mark wears?
04:38I think it's in the eye of the beholder, right?
04:40I mean, if you think there's significance there, then there's significance there.
04:44Did you get to take any of them home?
04:46The ties?
04:47Yeah.
04:48No, I didn't.
04:49Did you take anything home either of you?
04:50I took a Sharpie home.
04:51Oh, okay.
04:52I asked permission.
04:53Yeah.
04:54I mean, by the time we finished shooting for nine months or however long it is, I didn't
04:59want to wear those suits.
05:01I mean, I had had enough.
05:03I wanted to take a square of the carpet home.
05:06Yes, the green carpet.
05:07Because it feels like home now.
05:09Hang it up on the wall.
05:10Yeah, exactly.
05:11As a wall hanging.
05:12Shine a fluorescent light on it so you can get the vibe.
05:15Yeah.
05:16Yeah.
05:17Brit, what are the goats like to act with?
05:20Oh, they're feisty.
05:22They will eat your costume while you're doing the scene.
05:27And they don't care that the cameras are running.
05:29They think everything's delicious.
05:30They're like, oh, look at this skirt.
05:33Yeah.
05:34Sounds like a snack.
05:35Shoes look delicious.
05:37Everything's delicious.
05:38And they're actually very funny too.
05:40Yeah, they're so cute.
05:42Adam, last one for you then.
05:44This is a direct quote from a comment on our Instagram.
05:47There's something shady about Mark's sister Devin.
05:50Do you agree?
05:51Shady about Devin?
05:53Yeah.
05:54That's interesting.
05:55I love Devin.
05:56I love Jen Tolick who plays Devin.
05:58Me too.
05:59I think there are only awesome things about Devin and Jen.
06:05But, you know, again, you know, whatever the...
06:09It's all in the eye of the beholder.
06:11But I think Devin is...
06:12I mean, I think outie Mark, you know, there isn't really anyone else looking out for him other than his sister.
06:18I mean, she has his best interests at heart.
06:21And, you know, there really isn't a whole lot else out there for him when we've been moving through the story with him.
06:29I also think she's extremely funny.
06:31Yeah, Jen's hilarious.
06:37Who are you people?
06:39Welcome back, Mark S.
06:45In a minute.
06:46We always ask this question at the end of an interview with anyone we interview.
06:52If you had to pick one album that you always go back to, what would it be and why?
06:56One album?
06:57Yeah.
06:58Oh, wow. That's a good question.
06:59I mean, I'm really on a Patti Smith horses kick right now.
07:03She's about to tour and I'm just really in there.
07:06She's touring that album specifically?
07:08Yeah.
07:09That's cool.
07:10Yeah.
07:11I mean, I love Abbey Road.
07:14I love that last Waxahachie album.
07:17I love that last Vampire Weekend album.
07:21I think that's enough.
07:22Yeah, if you have to pick one, go on.
07:24Yeah, she's overachiever over here.
07:26I have to pick one.
07:27Maybe Abbey Road because it's sort of all-encompassing.
07:30It's a really good one.
07:31It's a really good one.
07:32Thanks so much, Chats.
07:34If we let this happen to Ms. Casey, who's going to step up when it happens to us?
07:39Oh, ho, ho.
07:42Now.
07:48Goodbye, Mark S.
07:49Wait!
07:53My name is Ms. Huang.
07:54It's my first day here as Deputy Manager.
07:57Mark W.?
08:00Why are you a child?
08:03Because of when I was born.
