00:45Lovely to see you and welcome. In fact, what I'm going to do now, actually, because a few people

00:51have been here for quite a while, so let's just inject a bit of energy into this room.

00:55Can I ask everyone to be upstanding, please? Everyone to be upstanding, and we're going to

01:00give a big round of applause, and it's a joint one. One for all our award winners today,

01:06and another one, and it's my honour to welcome onto the stage as we do this,

01:11the Lord Lieutenant for the West Midlands, Derek Anderson, CBE, everybody.

01:49It is my honour and privilege to start the formal aspect of today's event with a warm welcome,

01:59a warm welcome to our distinguished civic guests, the High Sheriff, the Lord Mayors of Birmingham

02:07and Coventry, their worshipful mayors of Dudley, Sandwell, Solihull, Walsall and Wolverhampton,

02:15and of course the same welcome is extended to the mayoresses and consuls present this afternoon

02:25from across the region. In addition, I want to extend a thanks and a welcome to

02:34TR London Academy, a vibrant performing arts school based in Bartley Green, who will be

02:41entertaining us a little later this afternoon, and a special thanks to our Master of Ceremony,

02:49formerly, many of you will know of Hans FM, but now with BBC Radio West Midlands, Ed James.
