00:00In 1844, Thailand saw the birth of its first newspaper, the Bangkok Recorder.

00:05Founded by American missionary Dr. Dan Beech Bailey,

00:09it started a new way of sharing information in a country where news had traditionally spread by word of mouth.

00:16The newspaper covered a wide range of topics, from local and international news to science and religion.

00:22It aimed to inform and educate, bringing news ideas to the Thai public.

00:26However, the Bangkok Recorder faced challenges, its readership was small,

00:30and some of its content, especially Dr. Bailey's strong opinions, was not always well-received.

00:35The paper closed in 1845, but was revived in 1865 with additional English-language articles.

00:42Despite its efforts, it ceased publication again in 1867.

00:47It marked the beginning of modern journalism in Thailand and paved the way for future newspapers,

00:51shaping how information would be shared in the years to come.
