The U.S. and the Philippines have announced have announced a series of new security initiatives during U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth's visit to Manila.

00:04U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth met with his Philippine counterpart Gilberto Teodoro Jr.
00:09in Manila. In a joint statement, the two countries say they've agreed to carry out
00:14special forces training on the northernmost Batanes Islands. The islands are less than
00:20400 kilometers from Taiwan, and the U.S. and Philippines will hold their annual
00:25Balacatan exercises there next month. Hegseth says the two sides will also
00:30improve maritime security in the region.
