00:08wildfires on record. Exhausted firefighters making another push on Friday to contain massive
00:15blazes which have stretched across 70 kilometers in the country's southeast. At least 28
00:21people have lost their lives and more than 45,000 hectares of forested land have been
00:27scorched or remain ablaze.
00:52As of early Friday, authorities reported that 95 percent of the fires in Uiseong had
00:57been extinguished, while 85 percent of the flames in neighboring Andong City had been
01:03brought under control. Although light rainfall of less than three millimeters fell in some
01:08areas, officials say it provided only minimal assistance. The devastation has forced over
01:1430,000 residents, many of them elderly, to evacuate. Authorities remain on high alert
01:21as efforts continue to fully contain the flames and prevent further destruction.
