00:00The relatives of a man who borrowed money from loan sharks are now suffering from his
00:06actions after a petrol bomb was hurled into their home.
00:10The 70-year-old homeowner, who went by the name Wong, and her three relatives inside
00:15the house, were shocked to discover a fire engulfing their car porch.
00:19I woke up at around 12 or 1 o'clock in the morning, and I heard a loud bang at the door.
00:26I got up to check it out, and it was a huge fire.
00:32At a press conference on Thursday, organised by MCA Public Services and Complaints Department
00:38head Datuk Sri Michael Chong, Wong revealed that their car was completely damaged in the
00:43fire.
00:44Her 29-year-old son, Leong, said he was at work that night, and only found out about
00:49the incident when a friend called to inform him.
00:52This is my relative, Wong, and she borrowed money from loan sharks in Singapore.
01:03I live there, and I was innocent.
01:08My car was burnt, and I don't have a place to live.
01:12The perpetrators even recorded a video of the fire, and sent it to Leong as an intimidation
01:17tactic.
01:19Further inquiries with family members revealed that Leong's cousin had borrowed 500 Singapore
01:24dollars, approximately 1,700 ringgit, from loan sharks.
01:29Although the cousin had repaid the debt, including interest, the loan sharks demanded 5,000 Singapore
01:35dollars, around 17,000 Malaysian ringgit, and continued to harass the family.
01:41Leong stated that he rarely keeps in touch with his cousin, and was unaware of the loan.
01:46The borrower said, I already settled, but they extort me.
01:50But why you go and give the address?
01:52How this scammer know the address?
01:55Who give the address?
01:58Who?
01:59Who else give the address?
02:02You know, when they cannot look for the victim, they cannot look for the parent where he stay,
02:09they come and disturb the nicks of kin.
02:11That's the auntie.
02:12You see, where got fare?
02:13Where got law?
02:14A police report was filed on March 20 regarding the incident.
02:19Chong urged authorities to investigate the case as attempted murder, stressing that lives
02:24could have been lost in the attack.
