NSW government admits it needs to do better on public transport reliability

The Federal Court's rejected a union bid to resume industrial action on Sydney's rail network. The Premier's welcomed the news but Chris Minns admits his government needs to lift its game on transport, as it marks two years in office.

00:00It was a summer of frustration for commuters as a fast-moving city was brought to a crawl.

00:07Today's court ruling against the Electrical Trades Union will protect the pause on industrial action,

00:13but the Premier concedes the network needs more than that to get back on track.

00:17Nowhere near up to scratch when it comes to on-time running for the transport system.

00:21Sydney Train's target is for 92% of services to arrive within five minutes of their scheduled time,

00:27but that goal hasn't been met since January 2024.

00:31Some of that's been industrial, but I've got to admit some of it's been basic maintenance and signalling that we haven't gotten right.

00:37With his government at the halfway point, the Premier's also under pressure on housing supply.

00:42The state's still not on track to meet the targets it signed up to.

00:46Aside from question time, the opposition was conspicuously quiet.

00:50On a day when it hoped to be applying the blowtorch to the government, someone on the inside was lighting fires.

00:56A screenshot was leaked of the Shadow Roads Minister Natalie Ward on a video conference with Coalition colleagues while driving a car.

01:04It's a matter for the person that took the screenshot of me without my consent.

01:08What I would say is that I made a poor error of judgement.

01:11What I would say about the Coalition is just when you think they're down and out, they do pull themselves together.

01:17Look, I've been in opposition, that's tough. It is a tough job.

01:20One he won't have to contemplate for another two years.
