00:27I'm a full-time teacher.

00:29Teaching isn't just what I do, it's who I am.

00:52Joe often tells people that I didn't agree to marry him until the fifth time he asked me.

01:01The truth is, I loved him from the start.

01:28When I taught English here at Brandywine High School,

01:31I would spend my summer preparing for the school year about to start, filled with anticipation.

01:47You know, motherhood came to me in a way I never expected.

01:51I fell in love with a man and two little boys standing in the wreckage of unthinkable loss.

01:58Mourning a wife and mother, a daughter and sister.

02:02I never imagined at the age of 26, I would be asking myself,

02:09how do you make a broken family whole?

02:41People sometimes ask why I choose to teach at a community college.

02:46And the answer is simple.

02:48It's my students.

02:50I love being in the classroom and seeing the difference I can make in the lives of my students.

02:57My goal is to always give them confidence in their own abilities.

03:33I love going to work every day.

03:35I teach at Northern Virginia Community College.

03:37I teach English.

03:39I was there Thursday giving midterm conferences on how they did on their exams.

03:45You know, that sort of thing.

03:46And I'll be there again on Tuesday.

04:16I'm a proud military mom and grandmother.

04:19And I'm always honored to be in the presence of military families.

04:23I want all of you to know just how much we appreciate everything your families do in serving our country.

04:31That's why Michelle and I started our Joining Forces Initiative

04:36to give something back to all of our nation's military families.

04:51I'm Jill Biden's husband.

04:53As you heard tonight, you can see why she's the love of my life and the rock of our family.

04:58She never gives herself much credit.

05:00But the truth is, she's the strongest person I know.

05:31Together, we must do more to ensure all girls and boys have the opportunity everyone deserves

05:39to pursue their passions and be treated with respect regardless of gender.

05:44And I'm proud to be in a country that has embraced the fact that we are all more successful

05:50when women and girls are given the opportunity to succeed.
