Bhutan wants to be the first country to become 100% organic

00:27The important thing is to make progress towards achieving our overall goal, which is to harvest

00:53renewable energy and to use that renewable energy to power our own country and with the

01:00excess of it, the extra energy that we have, to power the industries, the energy needs

01:09of our neighbours, provide them with clean energy.

01:40We feel that by having more electric cars, we can reduce the import of fuel.

01:44And as it is, we are already generating a lot of electricity and we'll be having more hydro projects coming up.

01:49So we can use the electricity which is in plenty in Bhutan and reduce the fuel imports and it's good for the environment also.

01:56But all of this depends on the cost of the vehicles and the technology of the vehicles.

02:09Economic growth is important, but it must be balanced with other important aspects of life,

02:36including culture, spirituality, heritage and also the environment.

02:41So there has always been a strong emphasis on the environment and sustainable development.

02:47This is not just a passing phase.
