Yoga For Every Body Type

This yoga teacher launched an online class to prove that yoga can be for every body type.

00:00It's about being able to teach to the people who walk through the room and leaving things

00:10like fatphobia and shame out of those spaces, and also things like the language that we

00:15use as well.

00:16My name is Dana Falsetti, F pretty, I'm authentic.

00:27Hi friends, welcome to this beginner flow class.

00:29I think a lot of people are just tired of being in a place where they feel unseen and

00:35dehumanized for the way that they look.

00:47You're teaching to the person who needs props for support, who needs different variations

00:52and modifications to make the postures work in ways that are accessible to them, because

00:57the reminder is that we're never trying to mold us to the posture, we can mold the posture

01:01to work for us.

01:11I focus on making the classes as inclusive and accessible as possible.

01:15So for example, I have a class geared towards pelvic pain, and I did my best throughout

01:20that class not to make it gendered, not to make it woman or female centric, because lots

01:26of people experience pelvic pain.

01:35It's not about positivity all the time, a lot of this process is actually very painful,

01:41can be traumatic, can look like kind of crashing and burning, and it's a lot more than love

01:47your body all the time.

01:49This is really about internal healing and social justice and compassion and empathy.

02:02It's essential that people who are visibly fat, visibly less able bodied, whatever your

02:08point of marginalization is, it's essential to be visible so that other people know that

02:13these spaces are for them as well, even though there are many who might not want us to know

02:17that these spaces are available to us.
