00:00Just like many other countries all over the world, we have a big plastic issue and we

00:22don't have a good solution to our plastic and often time these plastics end up along

00:26the beaches.

00:27We just really do love the ocean.

00:29We love going down to the ocean to calm our soul, to swim, sports.

00:34It's really an important part of our lives and we really do want to protect it.

00:57Everybody was involved.

01:06You have your non-profit organizations being involved.

01:09The government, the municipalities, individuals, sports groups, school kids.

01:16So anyone who was anyone was there and they were cleaning up the beaches.

01:20So it was really great just to see different people from different backgrounds coming together

01:24for this one single cause.

01:27We see in particular we had a few groups of school kids that were with us as well

01:31as some of the general public who came down, took equipment from us and just came down

01:35to clean the beaches, which was very, very heartwarming.

01:57It allows people to realize what happens to our trash once it leaves our hands.

02:19Where does it end up?

02:20And a lot of this trash ends up in the ocean.

02:22So we hope that people after they come to an event like this, they'll go home, they'll

02:26think about their actions.

02:28We can all think of ways to better improve ourselves.

02:31And if we are able to instill that kind of thought in the local public, then it's a win.

02:51As a marine biologist who's actually researching microplastics on a day to day level, I'm

02:56often asked if beach cleanups are enough.

02:59Is it enough to solve our plastic problem?

03:02And my answer is absolutely not.

03:04So if we really want to see a difference of the amount of plastic reaching the oceans,

03:08there are many things that need to be changed.

03:11The biggest one is from industry, but we also have a power to make a difference.

03:16So my suggestion would be find ways to remove single use plastics from your lives.
