Do you like the taste of algae? Because it could be the future of your alimentation.
Transcript
00:00If enough people switch to algae, we can potentially reverse the amount of carbon that we have
00:11in the atmosphere and eventually reverse global warming.
00:30Nonfood is a company specializing in algae-based foods.
00:33We are very interested in algae because it's extremely sustainable.
00:36It can grow with about 1% of the resources of other crops like corn or soy.
00:41That means 1% less water demand and less CO2 emissions than those crops.
00:47So we really see it as the future of food.
00:53It's one of the oldest organisms on Earth, so it's the reason that we have oxygen in the atmosphere.
00:58It thrives under a lot of conditions, so it kind of just makes sense as the most efficient food source.
01:04We want to bring back that efficiency of the early ecological epochs
01:10and in doing so really reduce the human footprint of agriculture on the Earth today.
01:34If there is an increased ecological catastrophe over the next decades,
01:50then algae is actually at least something that can grow in a lot of different conditions.
01:54It can potentially even grow in farmland and places that can no longer sustain regular kinds of plants and animals.
02:02So at least it's a backup plan if it's not the first plan, but we hope it is the first plan.
