00:00We decided to create a extra secure lock that will put students and teachers in more control of their safety.
00:17What we created was an intruder lock.
00:19And it's a simple design with a major purpose.
00:24And that purpose is to create a safe learning environment for students.
00:29It's two brackets and then one middle piece.
00:32One bracket goes on the door and then another bracket goes on the door frame.
00:37So it's the opposite side of the hinges and just above the door handle.
00:42So once the door is closed, then that middle piece can drop in both of those brackets and it keeps the door from opening.
01:00We came up with this idea by talking about how the relevance of the problem for school shootings is growing bigger and bigger.
01:09And we decided that we were going to do something about it ourselves since we haven't seen any change.
01:30At our school, our institution, we have really big windows and I love it there. I love how bright it is.
01:35But of course that's a safety concern.
01:37So we wanted something where we could have our doors open and we could have the windows open and stuff.
01:42But also have like neat standards.
01:51We want to see it on all the doors in our school.
01:55And we're actually going to talk to someone higher up and they're going to help us implement it in other schools around our state.
