00:00There are 68.5 million displaced people in the world right now
00:04and that can kind of sound a huge number that's really difficult to understand
00:08but every single one of those people are just people like you or I
00:12and they've only had to leave their homes because they've had no other choice.
00:30You buy these items and instead of taking them with you
00:33they get delivered to people who really need them.
00:36There's the arrival stage, so when people are crossing a border
01:01or just coming off a boat, you're really looking for safety.
01:05We have a life jacket that represents search and rescue.
01:08We have an emergency blanket. We have a child's coat.
01:11Then we have the shelter section, so when people are living in a camp
01:15or in informal settlement or not really safe.
01:18We're providing tents, we're providing hygiene packs, food packs, meal ingredients.
01:23When people come in here and they touch those items and they feel those items
01:36they're kind of transported into what that person is going through
01:39and we've seen people come in and hold the child's boots and just burst into tears
01:44or hold the school bag and they're suddenly thinking about
01:47oh my goodness, there are children out there that aren't in school
01:50and I can do something about that.
01:51Our favourite section of the store is the future.
01:54There's a school bag with school supplies that also supports education programmes.
01:58There's some keys which support accommodation programmes
02:01helping people get back on their feet with access to language skills, with access to jobs.
02:06There's a box of tissues that represents psychosocial support.
02:09So important that people have help with their mental health
02:12when they've been through so much trauma.
02:21In this work you see the worst of humanity but you also see the best
02:26and the resilience of the people who are using these services
02:30and the dedication of volunteers and people who dedicate their lives to helping others is so inspiring.
02:36I've met volunteers who are five years old and I've met volunteers who are 95 years old
02:40from every possible background.
02:43I think that's something that's so, so beautiful about community
02:47is that it's for everybody and when communities come together
02:50really beautiful things happen.
