It's officially #NoStrawNovember in California — thanks to this Girl Scout.

00:00No Straw November is a challenge to eliminate your personal plastic pollution by simply

00:13saying no to single-use plastic straw.

00:21I started No Straw November because I saw the lack of challenge that our younger generation

00:27was facing.

00:28I knew they really wanted to make a change, they just had nothing really pushing them

00:31to do that.

00:32So, when I was in a classroom environment, I saw that firsthand and that's where No Straw

00:36November came up.

00:38Then I realized that it's an all-generation challenge, that anyone can participate in

00:42it.

00:43So then that's really where I felt motivated to spread the word about it.

00:46And I just figured, why not try to take it the next step and get it noticed by the state

00:51of California, where I live.

01:00I chose to tackle the issue of single-use plastic straws because I think it's one of

01:04the easiest things to give up.

01:06It's always important to remember that some people medically need straws and that's okay

01:09and people should be really accepting of that.

01:12I guess the whole purpose of No Straw November this year is to embrace our community and

01:17embrace those who medically need straws and just challenge people who don't need them

01:21to give them up.

01:31All the plastic that is on our ground, on our earth, it has the possibility of making

01:37it to the ocean because that's the biggest thing that covers earth.

01:41So it's just, it's a no-brainer why it in turn get into our fish and then we end up

01:46feeding them.

01:58One straw can make a difference and then overall any small act of kindness or any small act

02:03that will help others will overall make a bigger impact than you will know.

02:23That's where you can write how many straws you refused and how many straws you were offered.

02:27That way you can kind of get a sense of how many straws you could be potentially using

02:31on the daily.

02:32So Americans use around half a billion single-use plastic straws per day and that's a very scary

02:38statistic and that's only in America.

02:48I think the next goal regarding California is to really consider how we give straws away

02:54in fast food restaurants and eliminate that really fast plastic pollution and just overall

03:01have people more aware to the issue and have people take better care of where they put

03:05their trash.
