00:00The Malaysian Dental Association, which was criticized by a group of dentists for planning
00:06its annual general meeting on May 4th in Sabah, has reminded them that it is a national-level
00:11society whose members are not based in the Klang Valley alone.
00:16MDA President Dr. Mas Surulis Ahmad said the association empathized with the predicament
00:22of peninsular-based members who might have to fork out more money to travel to Kota Kinabalu
00:27for the AGM.
00:28However, she said this is also the predicament faced by members from Sabah and Sarawak when
00:34AGMs are held in the peninsula.
00:37Surulis said in previous years, the association had hosted the AGM in different zones to ensure
00:43fairness and equity to all members.
00:46Earlier, FMT reported that a group of 50 dentists in the peninsula had questioned MDA's move
00:52to hold the AGM in Sabah, saying it would be costly for many of them to attend.
00:57Their spokesman, Dr. P Mahendran, said while members from the peninsula have to spend about
01:02RM3,000 each to attend the AGM, MDA would bear all expenses incurred by the 20 council
01:08members to go to Sabah.
01:11Surulis explained that all council members serve MDA on a voluntary basis without any
01:16compensation, and the organization believes it is fair to reimburse their travel and accommodation
01:22for official meetings.
