00:00U.S. military planes arrive at Greenland's Nuuk airport, ahead of a visit that's already

00:06stirring political turmoil and fierce reactions.

00:09On Sunday, the White House announced that Usha Vance, the wife of Vice President J.D.

00:15Vance, will visit Greenland on Thursday.

00:18She will be joined by the National Security Advisor Mike Waltz and Energy Secretary Chris

00:23Wright.

00:24During what's called a private tourist trip, the U.S. delegation plans to visit this American

00:30military base, the national dog sled race and historical landmarks.

00:36This is a visit to learn about Greenland, its culture, history and people.

00:41The trip comes at a sensitive time, amid Greenlandic government negotiations and just days before

00:47municipal elections.

00:49Outgoing Prime Minister Mutte Egerde called the visit a provocation, accusing the U.S.

00:55of disrespecting the Greenlandic people.

00:57The Americans have been clearly informed that meetings can only take place when a new government

01:02has taken office.

01:03U.S. President Donald Trump has suggested the U.S. should annex the semi-autonomous

01:09island for its strategic location and mineral wealth, an idea strongly rejected by Denmark,

01:16who also criticized the U.S. delegation's visit.

01:20It's a charm offensive aimed at pulling Greenland towards the USA.

01:23There is no appetite for this in Greenland, and there is no appetite for it in the kingdom

01:27either.

01:29The U.S. move has also drawn criticism from the EU.

01:33On Monday, the Commission reiterated its support for Denmark as pressure over Greenland continues

01:39to mount.
