00:00Money is a great motivator which pushes one to beg, steal, borrow, lie, and kill.
00:05Just like those policemen who shot and killed small-time users and pushers
00:09without enforcing the criminal justice system and the war versus illegal drugs.
00:13The scores even hundreds in the fake news army.
00:17And troll farms are motivated by cash to post and publish false stories
00:20in their quest to malt and disinform.
00:23And this financial wherewithal from which they draw
00:25comes from someone with a political agenda and big pockets
00:29and is in the crosshairs of the NBI as our Luisa Erispe reports.
00:35The National Bureau of Investigation is looking into the possibility
00:39someone is behind all the fake news spreading online against the government.
00:44According to NBI Director Jaime Santiago,
00:47they are digging into details of a funder behind all fake news spreaders in social media.
00:59This idea of a certain funder came from the NBI
01:19after having observed the alleged fake news contents in social media
01:23are somewhat organized and similar or identical to each other.
01:27Also, they are keeping up with trending topics in politics
01:31that cause confusion and division among netizens.
01:34PNBI said it understands the essence of freedom of speech of those who express their opinions.
01:59But if they try to mix rumors with facts and cause disinformation,
02:04the NBI will step in to investigate.
02:06As of now, there are 20 individuals the NBI is keeping close watch
02:11for allegedly spreading fake news.
02:21The NBI admits if a certain content creator is outside the country
02:26and a citizen of another country,
02:28this may be a challenge for their investigation.
02:30But if it is a Filipino citizen, even if they are outside the country,
02:35the NBI could tap the International Police Crime Organization or INTERPOL
02:40to help in the arrest and eventual return of suspect back to the Philippines.
02:49The NBI is working hand in hand with the Department of Justice,
02:53Department of Information and Communications Technology,
02:56and National Telecommunications Commission in this investigation.
03:00The DOJ said it may file charges and violations of the cybercrime law.
