00:00As Democrats figure out who they are and where they want to go,

00:03these are the leading figures at the moment that we should be watching.

00:07The most interesting figure right now is California Governor Gavin Newsom.

00:10He is at the same time fighting the Democrats in Washington as being too weak.

00:18He is at the same time trying to build a bigger tent for the party,

00:23inviting MAGA figures like Steve Bannon and Charlie Kirk on his podcast.

00:28He is just trying to set up the movement for a 2028 campaign in a very transparent way,

00:35all the while keeping donors and activists alike agitated against the people actually in charge of

00:43the Democratic Party in Washington at the moment. Similarly, we're seeing Illinois Governor JB

00:48Pritzker, also a governor of a solidly blue state, making moves for 2028. He was in Washington

00:56recently and basically laid waste to the current Democratic leadership,

01:02trying to make moves against it. Similarly, looking at 2028, he's hiring a lot of White

01:09House veterans from the Biden administration and before into his team. There's a lot of

01:16interest in what a billionaire from the heartland could do if things line up correctly for him.

01:24Similarly, Tim Waltz, who was the vice presidential nominee last year, he's currently

01:30the governor of Minnesota. He's trying to do a Midwest middling approach to this,

01:37and we're not sure what to make of that either. He's currently going on a tour of

01:44House Republican districts. It is the greatest told you so tour that he never wanted to be on,

01:50telling crowds, this is what we warned you against. You didn't listen to us. Now you have

01:54to find out the consequences. It's a really interesting middle of the road situation here,

02:01trying to figure out where the Democrats are heading. The bottom line though is Democrats

02:08don't know where they're going. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the Congresswoman from New York,

02:15who is just this liberal firebrand, progressive darling, who's trying to lay the groundwork. We

02:20don't really think that she's going to run for president in the short term, but she is setting

02:27up a potential primary challenge in 2028. Because yes, we live in a permanent campaign and the 2028

02:34cycles, the next time Chuck Schumer is up, is setting herself up to primary him. House Democrats

02:40decided against putting her in charge of the oversight panel last year. There's a lot of

02:45recrimination about that, given her success, prowess, skill, savagery, being a member of that

02:53panel and challenging the Trump administration at this point. Pete Buttigieg, who decided against

02:59running for Senate out of Michigan, also getting some buzz. You've got folks like Wes Moore,

03:05the governor of Maryland, who made a trip to Washington that got a lot of tongues wagging

03:11about his aspirations. Ultimately though, until there is a nominee, and that's going to be

03:16probably late spring, early summer 2028, Democrats are going to be operating rudderless and that's

03:23going to be a really messy situation to watch as they try to figure out who they are and where

03:29they want to go.
