House probe on fake news 'interesting,' says influencer  Social media influencer and former Presidential Communications Office secretary Trixie Cruz Angeles on March 21, 2025 calls the third hearing of the House of Representatives' 'Tricomm' committee as 'interesting' after several of her peers were admonished by lawmakers over alleged misinformation spread on social media. Angeles also said that any regulation of social media may 'run afoul' of the constitutional provision of free speech. 00:00There were some conversations, but how was the hearing of the day, where our social media influence were even afforded for this inquiry?

00:15It's very interesting.

00:17So that's the extent.

00:19We were reminded by our fellow congressmen

00:26that we are bound by the rules until the hearings are done, which I think was a good thing also.

00:33So it's good that we were given notice on restrictions.

00:39So I think basically, the discussions are whether or not social media can be regulated.

00:48If you state it that way, regulation, siyempre it will run afoul of the constitutional guarantee of free speech.

00:56But what was necessary na nakikita natin sa hearing today is to level off yung understanding natin of what constitutes the limitations of free speech online.

01:11Ma'am, kasi of course kanina, of course medyo nagkaroon ng issue of writing dun sa sinasabing mga posting nag-present.

01:19They were forced to oppose it.

01:22Kasi ngayon, parang sinasabing ngayon, nakatawagin mo sa isipan ng tao na they're posting fake news.

01:30Or they're posting fake news.

01:31And also, it's not going as dangerous, kasi depo na.

01:34Baka yung opinion ko nila might be construed as news.

01:37Hindi ba bahagi, hindi ba bahagi, nung pinag-usapan namin, ay wala pa pong definition ang fake news.

01:44So, pag sinabi mong guilty sila ng fake news, ay yan ang fake news, diba?

01:50So, unang-una, kaya nga po nagkakaroon ng ganitong diskusyon, ay para magawa ng legislation kung sa tingin nila ay naaangkot.

01:59At sabi nga ni congressman ako, bahagi nun ay ang pag-define ng fake news.

02:05So, sa ngayon, wala pa pong definition.

02:21I'm sure pag-aaralan, bahagi kasi ng paggagawa ng batas, ay titignan nyo kung hindi ito taliwas dun sa saligang batas.

02:30So, I'm sure ko-consider nila yan, lalong-lalo na, yan po ay malaking bahagi ng diskusyon ngayon.

03:00On the next hearing on January 8, are you still hoping for a resolution sa SC?

03:06Hindi po kami organized na grupo, kung kaya't wala akong pwedeng i-recommend, dahil sila po ay mag-decide nyo na naaayon sa sarili nilang kaalaman at sa sarili nilang dinadamdamin.
