00:00The story of Mystic Dan and the story of MAM are what fuels our industry.
00:22I don't think that when the Gasaways and their partners bred Mystic Dan, they were
00:27thinking they were going to win the Kentucky Derby.
00:29I first met Lance Gasaway in Hot Springs, Arkansas, after the races one evening, across
00:36the street from the track.
00:37And Lance and I hit it off pretty quickly, great guy.
00:40And he mentioned, hey, find me a horse.
00:43He called me one day and he sent me a video of, I think it was three.
00:47And one of them was a filly, the other two were colts, and he said, hey, y'all pick which
00:51one you want.
00:52And we chose MAM out of the bunch.
00:55She was a hard trying filly.
00:57She broke her maiden third time out.
00:59I think we ran her for two and a half years until she was five.
01:03And then at the end of her career, I said to Lance, you ought to consider keeping her.
01:06I think she might be a filly that could produce a pretty good horse.
01:10So he left that up to me, and then I recommended a mating.
01:14And here we are today.
01:15...to make up on Mystic Dan, who's begging for the wire.
01:19Forever Young and Sierra Leone keep on coming.
01:22Sierra Leone, Forever Young, and Mystic Dan, a wild finish, here's the wire, photo finish!
01:29You know, after you sit back and reflect on it, you kind of really realize what, you
01:33know, we accomplished.
01:34It's a blessing to have a horse of this caliber, and you know, people like Kenny and his whole
01:39crew, you know, they deserve all the credit.
01:42You know, that was our first ones to do breeding.
01:44That's my first baby ever to have, born here, raised here, you know, the whole ball of wax.
01:50How many people get an opportunity to handle a horse from conception through the birth,
01:56training, and racing?
01:58It's just been just an amazing journey.
02:01If you're going to stay in the horse racing business, number one, you have to take money
02:04off the table when the opportunity's there.
02:07With MAM, you know, with Mystic winning the Derby and all, you know, we feel like this
02:12is the time to put her out there and let's see what happens.
02:16It's very rare you have the opportunity to sell the dam of the current Kentucky Derby
02:20winner, and we're fortunate enough to have that opportunity in 2024 with the offering
02:25of MAM, obviously the dam of Mystic Dan.
02:27I know that Kenny has big hopes and dreams for him and his four-year-old campaign as
02:31well to add further to that resume, which is already very, very impressive with earnings
02:35of over $4 million.
02:38You know, MAM has a very interesting pedigree as well.
02:41She's the family, immediate family, of grade one stakes winner, Syphonic, grade one winner,
02:45Lara, and a successful stay in a summer front.
02:49She's enfolded into Mischief, which obviously produces an offspring very closely related
02:53to Mystic Dan.
02:54Also produces an offspring by one of the best stands in the world.
02:59Kenny's eye for coats and all, you know, and that's what he had told me with MAM even before
03:03Mystic Dan ran.
03:04He said, this mare is throwing off the prettiest babies.
03:07He said every baby she throws off is the prettiest baby we have on the farm.
03:11For us, it's going to be a little hard because we enjoy being around her and she's been great
03:14to us.
03:15But at the same time, that's the business of the sport and it's a good business decision
03:19on their part.
03:20Her career, I mean, just watch her develop and she was always so personable to you.
03:25It's going to be hard.
03:28I don't know if we'll make the sale or not.
03:31Might watch it on TV.
03:33I don't think you can go wrong because she's still young and she's obviously produced talent.
03:38But in this case, I think she speaks for herself and it's going to be pretty easy to bring
03:42her over there and let her show herself off.
03:50I think it's going to be pretty easy to bring her over there and let her show herself off.
