00:00Just a few days after her filly Torpedo Anna won the Kentucky Oaks, it was back to business

00:05as usual for breeder Judy Hicks.

00:08She took a break from her work at Brookstown Farm to introduce us to Torpedo Anna's

00:12dam, Sotavius, and a few other family members.

00:15Fortunately, three days before the Oaks, my last mare foaled, so that was a relief.

00:23It's been surreal, it's been, I mean it had to be business as usual, I think Saturday

00:29morning I had to take a mare to the breeding shed.

00:31The reality, I don't think, has still sunk in.

00:36And having the mare and a baby and a half-sister makes it even that much more exciting for

00:43what's to come with the whole family, not just with Anna.

00:47You know, Sotavius was born here.

00:49Sotavius was very, very premature and very small.

00:53We were not sure if her lungs were even going to function.

00:57And she took several years to grow up.

01:01And as you see, she's got body of Uncle Mo, but legs of a pony.

01:06Her first foal was Charlie O, by tourist.

01:10Her second foal was Torpedo Anna.

01:14This is her fourth foal, the known agenda.

01:17After the storm, I've already named her.

01:19Torpedo Anna, as a foal, was very difficult.

01:23She had a mind of her own, and she didn't want her feet trimmed.

01:28She didn't want to have vaccinations.

01:30She was pretty opinionated.

01:33And I sold her at the sale.

01:34That's where Kenny bought her.

01:35I went over to him and thanked him for buying her.

01:39And I said, I didn't think I wanted to sell her, because I think she was a good one.

01:42Can I stay in?

01:43And he said, sure.

01:45Her very first start, he called me and said, are you going to be at Keeneland?

01:50And I go, sure.

01:51He said, well, you better be, because she's going to win, and she's going to probably

01:54win going away.

01:57Her fourth race was the Fantasy.

01:59I had commitments here at the farm with my clients, folding mares, so I chose not to

02:04go.

02:05You could have heard me screaming in Versailles when she won in the Fantasy.

02:09And then, of course, the Oaks kind of speaks for itself.

02:12The way she ran, it was hard to contain myself.

02:15And my tears were flowing, but it was unbelievable.

02:19It was unbelievable, because we know how good she is.

02:22A typical day, I live in the middle of my farm.

02:25I live and breathe the horses.

02:27I kind of close the gates and everything.

02:29I leave everything behind me, because, as we all know, the thoroughbred business can

02:32be tough.

02:35And I just enjoy my life.

02:37I enjoy my animals.

02:39I work very hard, and I take every mare myself to the breeding shed.

02:45People say, when are you going to retire, Judy?

02:46I said, what would I do then?

02:49I feel that I run a good operation.

02:52It's not fancy, but it does seem to work.

02:57Now, walking outside and having this feeling of fulfillment, because what I've done.

03:03But I don't feel it's like anything out of the ordinary.

03:06It just happened.

03:08And I'm still having to just, hey, get it in your head that this really happened, and

03:14it's special.

03:15And it'll be an occasion I will remember for the rest of my life.
