00:00And this week's editions of First Things First,

00:03we're gonna talk about a subject near and dear to my heart.

00:06As a former jockey, we celebrated the PDJF Telethon,

00:10not only at Keeneland, but also at Santa Anita

00:13in the xbtv.com studios.

00:16They raised over $393,000.

00:20Big donations coming in from Fangel TV,

00:23as well as Lane's End.

00:25Our own Jessica Pfeiffer

00:27caught up with some of the connections.

00:30♪♪

00:35Just tell us how important this cause is

00:37to the jockeys here, especially at Santa Anita Park.

00:40Well, this is utmost important.

00:43These riders have given their careers,

00:48and they really appreciate any money that comes in

00:52to help their lives.

00:54You know, there's not much that comes in

00:56when a rider gets injured after two years.

01:00So this helps them just survive.

01:04And the more that comes in, the better, of course.

01:06And we've had some great donations today.

01:09It's just amazing how people act toward these riders.

01:15Armando, Michael, Eddie.

01:19Couldn't be more grateful.

01:20Yeah, it's just...

01:22We're grateful that everybody just steps to the plate

01:25in these difficult times.

01:27But it really helps these riders' lives moving forward.

01:31Armando Rivera, I just want to talk to you personally.

01:33How much did the PDJF help when you were in your accident,

01:37and how much has it changed your life?

01:38Well, I mean, there's nothing like the PDJF.

01:41I mean, they step up to the plate.

01:43I mean, we wouldn't be able to survive without the PDJF.

01:47So, I mean, they've done a great ordeal.

01:49I mean, the biggest thing in my life

01:50is that they have made me able to survive

01:53and helped me with all my needs, my payments, all my needs.

01:58So, I'm very grateful to be here,

02:00and I appreciate and tell everybody,

02:01thank you for all the love that they have given the PDJF.

02:16It really is a very, very good cause indeed.

02:20All right, I do want to remind you

02:21that racing will resume at Santa Anita this weekend,

02:23Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

02:25We do have the Royal Heroin and the Kona Gold Stakes.

02:29Perhaps one day, guys, he will get into the Hall of Fame.

02:32We'll talk about that a little bit later on.

02:35Don't forget as well, myself and Michelle,

02:37you will be headed up to Golden Gate Fields

02:39for the San Francisco Mile.

02:41It'll have a mandatory pick six payout on Saturday,

02:45and it looks like it's going to be an oversubscribed field

02:48for the San Francisco Mile.

02:49I'm really looking forward to going up there

02:52where the bay comes to play.
