Every now and again a racehorse comes along that bands the masses together in universal
00:07
appreciation. For the past two years that horse has been Bayid, a horse who has paid
00:12
homage to the breeding operation of the late Sheikh Hamdan and who has been a superstar
00:16
for his connections. He is now taking up stallion duties at Shadwell's Nunnery Stud and Will
00:22
Wright, who has joined the operation recently himself, tells us more about the brilliance
00:26
of Bayid.
00:28
It's a privilege to have a horse like Bayid. From a Shadwell perspective it's been a wonderful
00:33
journey right from moment one, from his win at Leicester all the way through. He's had
00:39
some great days that were highlighted with the Juddmont, but he was an outstanding miler
00:44
with exceptional speed. Now all that excitement has transferred to the Nunnery now with having
00:50
him across to Derrenstown. Everyone here has got that buzz, that excitement to have a horse
00:56
that was as good as him and which chases back through, bred in the Shadwell blue. It's a
01:02
credit to Sheikh Hamdan and his family for all that work he put in. It was so sad that
01:08
he couldn't have seen Bayid in action and he would have been so proud. But at the same
01:14
time it's Sheikh Ahissa and the family to take it on and to have him as that flagship
01:19
that started her journey in the Shadwell colours is incredibly exciting. He has gone
01:29
down exceptionally well. The best part, obviously, we did our December breeding stock sales and
01:34
we had our parades and all this interest. My phone did not stop ringing, Stephen Collins'
01:39
phone did not stop ringing and everybody came with that interest. We had nominations applied
01:46
from way before he was started. We've got an exceptional Book of Mares and the breeders
01:51
have seen him, they've not been disappointed. His physically, his temperament and obviously
01:58
it's just his talent and it all speaks for itself. We like to think he's the complete
02:04
Italian prospect and we in the squad are going to have every single chance with an incredibly
02:08
exciting first Book of Mares and hopefully that will continue into the second, third,
02:11
fourth, etc. We're privileged at Shadwell that we have three different horses all with
02:16
similar profiles in various ways. Ektadar, for example, he's obviously a Group 1 winning
02:24
sprinter by Invincible Spirit. He's got to have every chance from a very good Shadwell
02:28
family which, as I say, contains Massat and Mujbar, a Group 3 winner who won the Horace
02:34
Taylor too under the first stamp. He's the sort of horse that, look, I think he's flying
02:40
under the radar and look, we could be telling a different story come May given if he had
02:46
a few nice early runners and we've been hearing good things from buyers and trainers alike.
02:51
We could be more pleased with Tasley. He's the sort of horse you have to tell to people
02:55
that given the number of mares he covered in his first year and the quality of those
02:59
mares, he's upgraded them and he's producing racehorses. That was recognised last year.
03:06
He covered his biggest and best book yet. This following year, you'd be falling hot
03:12
on the heels of that crop. If they can replicate anywhere near what his two year olds have
03:19
done this year with the quantity that's going to be on the track, he'll be an incredibly
03:25
hot prospect. With Mahatha, the Sussex Stakes was his day in the sun. He defeated Circus
03:31
Maximus, Cameco and Siskin and look, he pulled himself round the whole field with a devastating
03:38
burst of speed and that was just testament to the talent that horse had. He was a Group
03:44
winner at 2, 3 and 4. He's the most gorgeous looking horse. I challenge anybody to find
03:48
a better looking stallion and he's sort of stamping his foals with those exact looks
03:53
and then his good movement, his athleticism. So yeah, we couldn't be more pleased. Foal
03:58
prices during the sales, they reached 110,000 guineas and we supported him ourself. I've
04:03
had to pinch myself joining at this time. To have a horse like Bailly land on your doorstep
04:10
and along with an exceptionally exciting roster of stallions, yeah, it's incredibly exciting.
04:18
And yeah, couldn't really ask for much more.
