Spring is almost here and so is allergy season. AccuWeather's Ali Reid shares five surprising ways to survive spring allergies.

00:09here are five things you might not realize

00:11can actually help ease your symptoms.

00:13Tip number one, shower before bed.

00:16You might think your allergies hit hardest

00:18when you're outside,

00:19but you could be bringing the problem inside with you.

00:22Pollen sticks to your skin, hair, and clothes,

00:25so showering before bed can keep allergens

00:28out of your sheets and help you wake up

00:29with fewer symptoms.

00:31Tip number two, keep your windows shut

00:33to keep pollen out of your home.

00:36As it warms up and it's a beautiful spring day,

00:39very frequently you wanna open it a little bit at nighttime.

00:43The problem is that you will wake up with lots of symptoms.

00:46Tip number three, keep pets outside of the bedroom.

00:49You may love snuggling with them,

00:51but if they spend time outside,

00:53they could be tracking pollen right into your bed.

00:56Keeping them out of your sleeping space

00:58can make a big difference,

00:59especially during peak allergy season.

01:02Tip number four, choose the right allergy medication.

01:05Allergy meds treat different symptoms.

01:07A nasal spray can help with congestion,

01:09while an antihistamine targets sneezing and itching.

01:12And if your eyes are the problem,

01:14there are over-the-counter drops

01:15designed specifically to relieve irritation.

01:18And finally, tip number five, see an allergist.

01:21You might need a treatment plan.

01:23If your allergies are just not being controlled

01:25and it's impacting your life,

01:27an allergist can absolutely help with all of those symptoms.

01:31So while you might not be able to avoid pollen completely,

01:33small changes in your daily routine

01:35can make a big difference.
