Two former 1st round picks Brady House & Seaver King joins G&D LIVE from spring training to discuss their future with the Nats.

00:00All right, let's welcome into the show live in the booth right now, fresh off the field,

00:04two of the Nationals' top-round picks over the last three years, Brady House and Seaver King.

00:10House drafted 11th overall and Seaver King 10th overall, both in the top five in the team's

00:14prospect rankings, the MLB pipeline, and they just took place in the spring breakout game we've been

00:19telling you about. Brady, it's great to see you again. Seaver, it's good to meet you in person.

00:24That was pretty cool to watch. This is a neat thing baseball does. We can start with you,

00:28first chance getting to take part in this showcase. What did you think?

00:30Yeah, it was a really good experience. I think we've got a good group of guys,

00:33and we're out there playing hard, and hopefully we can pull it out right here.

00:36For you, Brady, I don't want to say this sold for you, but it's getting there, right? I mean,

00:40you've done this a time or two. How's today different from the normal grind?

00:46It's fun because it's the second year of them doing it. Obviously, I was a part of it last

00:51year, but we did it at the Mets. With it being at home this year, it was fun, super fun getting

00:58to play with these guys. Tell me about the background. You guys are both Georgia guys,

01:02same age, and you're from a similar area. How well did you guys know each other growing up?

01:08Yeah, we played travel ball growing up from probably 11 to 14, maybe, on the same team,

01:14went to Cooperstown together, drove back from Cooperstown together. It's a long time coming

01:19to be on the same field again. Did you guys keep up, like texting each other while you go

01:24from high school to the pros, get drafted? You obviously go the college route,

01:27transfer, and become a star at Wake. Were you guys still buddies and linked up throughout?

01:33Yeah, of course. I mean, as soon as he got drafted, I texted him. Of course, I was on the

01:40road, actually, and I was watching the drafts on my phone, and to see that pull up on my phone was

01:46kind of cool. So, yeah, I definitely was happy about that decision and excited that we get to

01:52come back and play together because we play together at a young age, and then kind of,

01:56as we got older, different schools and all that, so it kind of took us away from each other.

02:00Siever, what was that moment like getting drafted? You're a first-round Major League

02:04Baseball draft pick. You know what I mean? You've done a lot of work to get to this point. There's

02:09still plenty of work ahead. You're working hard, but what was that kind of validation moment like?

02:12Man, I went to college, and I was like, all right, I'm just going to do our four years and

02:17go get a job, and it all just changed so quick. So, it was a crazy moment, but I try not to look

02:24back on it. I have higher, bigger goals, so it was a good night. Enjoyed it. Had a fun time,

02:31but then I want to get to work and get better and hopefully get to the big leagues soon.

02:39for the Nationals and King and Brady House joining us here on Grant and Danny Live from

02:44West Palm Beach. All right, let's do this. I want you to give, you've known each other since you

02:48were kids, give us a scouting report on each other. So, Siever, you go on Brady first. What

02:52impresses you? What do Nats fans need to know about a guy that's going to be in the big leagues

02:57sooner than later this year? Yeah, man, he's got a good glow over there. He's always been this big

03:01since we were 12, so, you know, it's easy to point him out. Yeah, I mean, he's a good hitter,

03:07good fielder. I just, it was always funny because we played each other in high school

03:11or middle school or something, and I remember giving report, I just throw the high fastball,

03:14but I don't really know if that works anymore. Probably not, but, you know, that's the only

03:17thing I got. What's your Siever analysis? Let's say for me, it's pretty impressive that he can,

03:27you know, I watched him play in college. Like, I love watching college baseball on my iPad. The dude

03:32gets up there, can go for extra bases, but can also put them out off the poolside. So, yeah,

03:38pretty impressive to me. So, Siever, just similar vein, asking you about Brady. There've been a

03:43bunch of guys going to games for all these years where you watch some of these stars, these, you

03:47know, prodigious home run hitters. There's a different sound sometimes, and you know exactly

03:52what you're nodding your head, you know exactly what I'm talking about, that the ball makes off

03:54their bat. He's got that. Absolutely. When the ball's hit, it stays hit. You know what I mean?

03:59It's like that resounding thunder. That's something you guys notice as well when he's

04:03taking hacks? Yeah, I mean, he's super quiet in there, and then it's just like, you know,

04:08just gunshot off, just bat speed out there. So, you know, it's always fun to watch these

04:14guys hit and play. It's always a treat. What's your first spring training been like? It's weird

04:19getting down here. It's our second day, but there's just so much going on. I don't think

04:24fans really get the amount of rings in the circus, so to speak, like the backfields. We're

04:30walking by one of the fields today, and Jake Irvin, who I just watched throwing a big league

04:33spring training game a couple of days ago, is throwing a sim game, and he's throwing against

04:37a minor leaguer, but then Josh Bell's in the box. There's so much coordination. How do you even know

04:42where to be at certain times? It seems crazy to me. Yeah, I mean, we got a good staff here to tell

04:46us where we need to go. Always there on time, and just, you know, it's an opportunity at the

04:51end of the day, whether it's, you know, playing defense for the big league guys or getting that

04:54bad or, you know, we just want each other to get better every day and ultimately win a World Series

04:57as an organization, so anything for us to do that is what we'll do. Brady, what advice have you given

05:02to Seaver or some of the other younger guys that are trying to, you know, climb the ladder and

05:06looking up at you as you're getting really close? Well, I mean, I don't know. It's different for me

05:11because I still feel like I'm the same as everybody else. It's weird, but whenever I see them, I

05:16still hang out with my bros all the time. So, you know, I like all the meshing together,

05:25like with the big leaguers going to do stuff with the minor leaguers and the minor

05:29leaguers doing that because you get to see everybody and you get to meet everybody. That

05:32way, like whenever you're moving up affiliates, I'm sure it's way more comfortable whenever you

05:37have people that you know up there. So I think it's good that you meet and you become friends

05:42with all these guys during spring training because whenever you move up, then you're gonna,

05:47yeah, you know, know everybody. You're only hitting 368 this spring,

05:52about 370. I know you guys don't care about spring numbers, but it's been very productive

05:57for you. You've handled yourself well against big league pitching. Where's your confidence

06:01right now as far as if you've got an opportunity in the big leagues? Do you feel like you're ready

06:06to go excel or are there things you think you still have to iron out in the minors before you

06:11get the call this spring? Yeah, I mean, coming into spring training, I just wanted to tell myself

06:17and be prepared. You know, I wanted to come into spring training knowing that I did everything in

06:23the offseason to prepare for spring training. And then whenever you get here, this is a place where,

06:28I mean, you're playing games and stuff and there's numbers on the TV and stuff like that,

06:32but ultimately it's just a way to prepare you for the actual season. So for me, it's been more of

06:39a mental type of approach for me going into this spring training. I want to work on plate

06:46discipline and stuff like that. So yeah, just getting out there and doing it every day is the

06:50best way to do it. Seabird short, several really smooth, nice plays today. One diving in the hole,

06:55one tricky play that I think maybe folks aren't right, that top spin liner that was real handsy

06:59that you gloved, flipped up to yourself through the guy at first base. That's kind of the unsexy

07:04part at times for folks. Everyone looks at what happens in the box and everyone's an OPS nerd,

07:08wants to hear about runs created plus and things like that. How much pride do you take in playing

07:14defense? And I think you're staying in the shortstop, dude. Yeah. Obviously my whole life,

07:19it's been second, third, short center. I mean, it's been all, so coming in every day and knowing

07:23I'll be at short is really good for me. I really do take pride in it because that's something I

07:28can control every day. I can feel ground balls and I can make each and every play, but in the box,

07:32it's going to be up or down, but I know as long as I'm playing good defense, I should be fine for

07:36that day. And hopefully I can grind out on a B or two and help the team win. So if I can bring

07:41that mentality and that leadership in the infield, that's kind of what I want to do.

07:44I watched a lot of you in college last year. You seem to have put on a bunch of muscle

07:49over the off season. How much weight did you put on?

07:52Yeah. I got up to about 220.

07:55What'd you play at last year?

07:57I played at like 195 ish.

07:58Wow.

07:59So I'm hoping not to play at 220, but just get up and kind of see all that plays.

08:04Is that because you're going to lose weight as the year goes on or?

08:07Well, I mean, I've always had trouble from gaining weight. So when it kind of comes,

08:11it kind of comes in bunches. So kind of getting up there, just kind of seeing how my body feels,

08:14seeing if I'm still quick in the box or all those things and kind of finding the right

08:18weight is kind of what we're tinkering with.

08:20And how have you felt seeing you move today? It's so natural,

08:23but with all that extra muscle and weight, how has it affected positively, negatively,

08:28whatever at short?

08:30Yeah. I don't think it's done much to be honest. I think I feel comfortable. I put in the work in

08:34the off season to get my body in shape and, you know, it's just a little, a little couple

08:37extra muscle, but, you know, I'm just hoping to, you know, have that translate in the box,

08:41but hopefully in the up in the infield, it doesn't really affect me too much.

08:45Well, it's just cool to chat with you. Appreciate you guys coming up here and
