More than 42 million Brits are now living a greener lifestyle – by ditching their cars, never flying abroad and closely monitoring energy usage.  A study of 2,000 adults found 78 per cent have been trying to reduce their carbon footprint by using reusable bags (66 per cent), using LED bulbs and energy-saving appliances (59 per cent) and upgrading the home to make it more energy efficient (43 per cent).    Others are reducing their energy output by avoiding single-waste plastic (44 per cent) and even ditching fast fashion in favour of sustainable brands (31 per cent).  And 90 per cent believe they could save money by only filling the kettle with as much water as they need, turning appliances off standby and turning off lights in empty rooms.       The research was commissioned by Scottish Gas to mark its partnership with Scottish Rugby to help clubs reduce their carbon footprint and save on energy bills, via a Club and Community Net Zero Fund [https://scottishrugby.org/scottish-gas-club-community-net-zero-fund/].  Former Scotland international Tommy Seymour said: “We can all be guilty when it comes to accidentally wasting energy at home, whether that’s leaving lights on in rooms we aren’t using or boiling a full kettle for one cup of tea."

00:12There's a larger emphasis on energy saving across the board in society than there ever

00:15has been.

00:16Here at the Scottish Gatchamari Field, we've installed panoramic sensors all around the

00:25estate which feed into a monitor which will tell us exactly where we're using our energy

00:29and how we can convert larger pieces around the estate to make it more energy efficient.

00:34Scottish Gas and Scottish Rugby are working with clubhouses all around the country on

00:37the club and community fund which will allow a fund to be put in place which clubs can

00:40draw back from to improve their own energy efficiencies.

00:42It's not just about partnerships anymore, it's about the impact we have on society and

00:46the brands we align ourselves with and how we speak to our audience, the affinity that

00:49sports fans have with us as a governing body and how we can use that place that we hold

00:53in society to really tell a powerful message about how we change things for the better.

00:58Certainly I'll be cranking down the thermostat and making sure that's at a more manageable

01:01level and I think definitely when it comes to boiling the kettle, that's the number

01:04one thing I think is the easiest for us and we're all guilty of doing it, I think I'll

01:07be boiling it for one from now on.
